[JPN] Hakodate Trans. Bureau Trams

Postby Sir Pompously » Wed Jan 30, 2013 3:53 pm

Photos from a recent trip to Hakodate in Hokkaido Prefecture. I have been to Hokkaido a few times but have never stayed anywhere else but Sapporo, so it was good to be able to base myself in the busy little city of Hakodate. The photos are of the tram network operated by the Hakodate Transport Bureau.

Tram 8007 is seen mixing with traffic somwehere along the shared route 5/7 corridor

Tram 722 is seen approaching the terminus of route 2 at Yachigashira

Tram 8003 is seen arriving into Hakodate Eki Mae station

Hakodate tram 720 is seen with an old building near the Hakodate foreign district

Tram 530 has just terminated at Yunokawa and is about to head back to the depot

Hakodate Tram 530 is seen near Hakodate Station

Tram 2001 is seen operating a route 5 service

Tram 716 is seen on a route 2 service in Hakodate

Tram 8101 in special NHK Domo Kun livery is seen arriving into Hakodate Dokku Mae station. Domo Kun has a huge western following but many do not know that Domo Kun is actually a TV mascot for NHK (Nippon Hōsō Kyōkai)

Now for something a little different and very strange indeed:

This is the first concrete electricity pole in Japan installed in 1923 located near the foreign district in Hakodate. Various road signage points to this landmark and the landmark itself has an information board which can be viewed at the following link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kommissar_ ... otostream/
