[CAN] Calgary Transit

Postby Sir Pompously » Sat Apr 02, 2011 7:15 pm

Travelling with fellow ATDB'er busn00b to the USA and Canada, we made a brief stop in Calgary to see one of my friends who attends University here. A rather brisk -27 degrees during the day here, we managed to get out a little to grab some photos of buses and the CTrain, CTrain being the light rail service of the city. Clicking on the photo will enlarge the image.

Wow those LRV's look fantastic in the new livery.

Was it really -27C when you took those photos? The locals in the pic don't even seem to be wearing that much, not a toque (or beanie in Austrayan) to be seen.

At -27, you certainly don't stay out long enough to wear alot of layers (You go straight inside!). And yes, it ranged from about -23 to -33, last temp I looked at was -27. Might have been slightly warmer in the sun, by about 2 degrees or so.

Did you manage to see any of the GMC New Look "Fishbowls" or the GMC Classics which still remain in service there? I think you would have appreciated the Detroit Diesel 6v92 action.

Hello
Interesting to read up on this stuff on this board!

I'm a Ctrain operator here in Calgary, great pics of the U2s,SD160s and the New Flyers. Too bad theres no pics of the Nova's GMCs or our new newest LRVs the restyled SD160s. I will try to post a pic of them soon.

We recently received a new order of Nova buses, working on retiring the GMCs and also a new shipment of 50 LRVs are being negotiated as we speak to retire the U2 cars in the near future.

We have received 2 CNG buses for testing from New Flyer and waiting for another 2 CNG buses from Nova bus in the coming weeks. The buses have not been purchased but rather leased as this is a pilot project.

Great topic!
