Good stuff, I generally have the interest in both parts although when I did first getting started into it, I mainly collected timetables etc... Back then we didn't have the internet at my house...

No worries Phil, this would be something I would love to have the talent to do...oh and the time!

Your timetable project uses Microsoft Office Excel, busdriver12, and from what I've looked at so far, it does just that -- it excels!

I'm looking forward to exploring it more fully soon.

Good thinking, busdriver12! I must admit that, with only the 2003 version of Excel, when I clicked on the link I was mentally preparing myself for an error message to come up: 'Computer says NO'!

Would be nice to have a Android, Iphone, WP7 Transperth app which you can fire up to get latest info, live times, and timetable info.

One of the things I would like to do if I ever get the time/skills/interest is to take the data from http://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/Timetab ... ccess.aspx and write a mapping/routing application on my Nokia N900.
Something that could provide mapping and routing and "buses comming to this stop" and other information.
So it could give me full directions from point A to point B by saying "follow this line from where you are to this bus stop, then wait for this bus, get off here, get on this other bus, get off here, then follow this other line to get to where you want to go"

Huh? Since when did this happen? Last week I did see a Veolia bus displaying 104F Como and I was wondering what the hell was going on.

It seems interesting considering that the whole 104 route doesn't even come into the Fremantle contract! If they were to follow this procedure, you'd think other major corridors would have the same operator too where they currently don't. (i.e. Wanneroo Rd)

I did a little digging around before I went on holidays last week and found out the 104 is part of the Fremantle Contract. For some reason, Swan has been assigned this route (also it's predecessor 709) in the past, but this has now reverted back to Veolia's hands.
Historically this would all go back to the 103 at the start of contracting of services, when it operated Fremantle - Perth - Salter Point and was part of the Claremont-Belmont contract area. Swan rejigged some years ago all the South Perth services, one of the changes being the deletion of the 103 and its replacement by other routes.

The 709 (later 104) would have replaced the level of service previously provided by the 103 (in addition to the 106) along Canning Hwy - in making their service changes Swan would not have wished to lose those service kilometres (and thus revenue). Obviously with all the extra service kilometres now being pumped into the system, and the retendering of these contracts, the PTA have seized the opportunity to include the 104/105/106 under the one operator.

You could also ask why the Canning Bridge - Curtin Uni 100 and 101 services are part of the Canning contract, when they are clearly within the Belmont contract area. This is another historical anachronism, due to the 538 (Booragoon-Curtin) service originally being part of the Canning contract - this having been replaced by the 100/101. This was an even more odd route to be in Canning, as it didn't really travel into the Canning contract area at all, but traversed both Fremantle and Claremont-Belmont. I suspect the reason is that under MetroBus' timetables, the 538 and the 19X feeders to Booragoon (which were part of the Canning contract) were entwined, and to separate them into different contract areas would cost a peak bus or two. I don't have the old timetables at hand to check this, so it is purely a guess. Cleaning this up seems to have been an opportunity missed a couple of years ago when Canning was up for renewal.

The only reason i can see 104 being in Swans hands previously is that it operated on the eastern side of Kwinana Fwy, predominantly sWAn territory. Although i can see in the same respect why it has reverted back to Veolia as it runs in conjunction with route 106. Technical scenario that can work either way for operational purposes. Interesting to see it switched operators though!!!

I use Mediafire for online storage of files, then you can just provide the link here for people to download, just like Dropbox. Also it is free for a certain amount of space and even with alot of files on there, is still plenty of room for more.

I see that busdriver12 is no longer a member of this board but have noticed his timetable spreadsheet is still active. The link is https://db.tt/ktyrGaBG for those that may be interested. It appears to still be updated as the latest version date is 6/7/14.

I would say busdriver12 is still active on the discussion board, but using a new name.

I've noticed a few of the familiar names have disappeared recently, and new names are now on the board. I think I have worked out the old names for a couple of the new names.

No it looks like user Busdriver12 has definitely disappeared off the forum. All the "missing" conversations and posts suggest that the user has been deleted for whatever reason.

Just out of curiosity, unless Busdriver12 has left them out, why are there no 6xx and 7xx route numbers?

Thanks,

600s (other than 600 and 604 down at Mandurah) are used for special event services and 700s are predominantly school specials

There are some. 600 and 604 run from Mandurah to Pinjarra and South Yunderup respectively and are listed on B137. Other than that, a few casino services are allocated 6xx numbers, while the 7xx route numbers are used for school services, which often double up (i.e. from memory, route 715 is a number used by a service to Kalamunda and is also used by another down around Rockingham/Mandurah.) These 'special services' likely are not listed on here because they don't have an official timetable per se.

Welcome back but usually when someone quits the forum their posts remain but as all your original posts are gone, a fair few posts no longer make sense with no continuity due to missing BD12 posts!
