July 1 Adelaide Metro Timetable changes

Postby runawaybus » Wed May 02, 2012 5:02 pm

According to a media release put out by Chole Fox timetables will change Sunday July 1 2012.

We know longer journey times are on the cards but what about other innovative changes.

These changes to timetables will be about longer running times and pretty much that will be it.It will cost between 2 and 3 million dollars.
Chloe Fox has said "she doesn't want to make other changes rather trying to make timetables more realistic that are achievable by the 3 bus contractors".

There are two parts to the equation; the timetables themselves need to be achievable with appropriate running time provided during trips; and drivers shifts should be constructed with appropriate layover time at termini and appropriate time to run 'Special" between locations eq. depot and terminus. If even one of these is compromised then the performance will not improve greatly and we will continue to hear reports in the media of buses running late.

In other words one part is up to the Government to fix(Timetables),and the rest is up to each of the contractors to fix-will they?(the Government has to put pressure on the companies to fix these).

It might sound like that there is much more than this but they have excluded the Belair, Noarlunga Centre, Tonsley, Gawler Central, Outer Harbour and Grange rail lines and Glenelg Tram. Yes in total there are 97 bus timetables and yes there needs to be probably extra times on all bus routes but these routes that are being selected are probably the worst offenders for On-time running.

For example the following bus routes would not be nortorious for very poor on time running:

361, 745,747, Aldinga, McClaren Vale, Mclaren Flat services, services starting from railway stations and ending at railway stations, 333, Gawler Loop (however could make that service run now on weekends and last service say at 10pm at night), none of the Hills ones because the Minister has stated they didn't get fined this time around because of there great preformance. So it narrows it down a bit but all of Transfield services, some Torrens routes, and some Southlink ones (both in Outer North and Outer South). We shouldn't expect alot of innovation yet and like someone said before this is a fine tuning exercises and there needs to be 30 extra buses for this timetable change and this will need to come from somewhere.

We need to remember if they fix this timetable and make it work and most people are happy then there innovation can start I have some ideas and I will be forwarding them to the department around mid to late this year.

All we know at this stage is that approx 80 bus timetables, plus Outer Harbour plus Grange lines will change. Will see additional running times on those affected bus timetables to try and overcome late running.
As for when they will be released;- if the date for their introduction is still July 1st,then they should be available 2 weeks tomorrow(could possibly be some available late next week-keep your fingers crossed!

Some route changes in the North from these:

411, 225 and 501 now using Main Street instead of Garden Terrace.
A small extension to the 442 into the new suburbs north of Curtis Road.
Every 2nd weekday 560 to do a loop past 'Florey Health Care' ??? in Pooraka.
New twice daily 407 route from elizabeth to plams lifestyle village on Supple Road.

So far I've noticed the following time changes:

4 extra minutes on 411 UP (Definitely needed, 1 extra minute DOWN not so ciritcal, but sure to help)
5 minutes less on 224X/228X UP on final leg into city
4 minutes less on 224F/228F UP on final leg into city
461 now has less time going to/from Brandis Road Down from 11 & 9 to 8 & 7

Also:

228 has lost a time point on Hamblyn Road
452 time point has moved from stop 70 Womma Road to 71 Heytesbury Road (So that 452W's now finish at a time point)

(All of this a sure sign I have too much time on my hands ;)

LONG overdue especially since North Tce has had numerous additional sets of traffic lights installed for quite some time now

So there will be no services besides the 99C going to Hindmarsh Square via Wakefield and Pulteney Streets, surely there will be workers who work around Hindmarsh Square who will be annoyed with a long walk to King William Street. Call that improvement? I dont think so :(
Next station is Keswick, change here for trains to Darwin, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney :-)

There is no change in the route description for the 225 :S
Regarding the 442, that'll be north of Craigmore Road not Curtis Road.
407 :D What is it with route number selection these days? Do they pick a number out of a hat nowdays :P ? Surely it could be 901 or 900P

The 99C will have 36 mins to do the loop (both clockwise and anti clockwise) compared with the current 26 mins. But only running every 20 mins instead of 15. So longer running times are funded by less frequent services in the case of 99C. Wonder how many other services are like that?

The 560P is an interesting thing. Of note, is that it will cover the two stops along Bridge Rd at Pooraka that the 205/6 used to before that route got scrapped. As a local to the area, Carr St is an interesting one. It used to have a school bus cut up along it, but during the day there are LOTS of cars parked along both sides of that road, so it would make getting a bus down it quite difficult. There needs to be parking control added to one side of the road to facilitate this as workers from the shops and businesses in the area tend to park all their cars there. Also of note is that the Florey Heath care thing is just a multipurpose doctors surgery, but more importantly there are a few old folks homes up at Ingle Farm that would use the bus stop out the front of that health care place, so I'd suggest that is more the reason of this loop.

I hate when people critcise themselves for having too much time on their hands because the simple thing is the research you have done is very good and I commend you on it trust me I know someone who has done this for years and was a veteran public transport advocate as well as planner and this sort of information is very useful because it shows how routes have changed significantly- especially journey times.

As for the changes I see Southlink North have been proactive in actually extending the bus service to Blakeview Estate (North of Craigmore Road), and introducing a Retirement Centre Shuttle that as a commuter we really can't go to without coming back (ie. bus comes back as not in service from Viginia) apart from that I am amazed at one thing it goes along Angle Vale Road does that mean one day we might actually see Metrocard services out to Angle Vale again?

Maybe its time Southlink North looked at the little old town of St Kilda and operated a trial of services to connect with trains at either Elizabeth or Salisbury? Just my idea. There is a Metrocard school run as far as I know???

Down in the South no real change, east-west no real change north-south the change of 245-248 routes to go along King William Street (I await how on time they will be given Anzac Highway can get rather busy) and out to Paradise Interchange and Northgate. The 560P is a very good idea but like said before a street it travels on can be rather tricky for buses trust me I have driven a bus down there and its quite a hairy experience you travel around 5 to 10kph to avoid parked cars either side. Yes the 560P was introduced because there was an outcry of Ingle Farm older people missing there link to the Florey Medical Centre and commendably Southlink North listenned.

As for the O-Bahn well nothing more can be said but extended journey times (as with other timetables) as for the Outer Harbour Train whats happened I cannot click to see the timetable.

Here is one funny thing for you and I will make you laugh surely. Yesterday's Sunday Mail had a large advertisement saying what is happening but one thing it said you can get all your infomation at the Info Centres etc. You gussed it I rang them up (the InfoLine) and well they said the ad was wrong the timetables won't be out for some time. In other words the ad is quite misleading. Anyway, I hope they are out this week or next week sometimes- but I don't hold much hope because they have to reprint the fare brochure etc.

That is my opinion what are yours???

Adelaide Metro's new page for the route 507 timetable has the timetables for routes 500/501/502/502X instead! If you want to see the new 507 times (essentially just a few minutes added onto final arrival times), click on the link for the 503 route.

Yesterdays ad(and the Adelaide Metro website) also mentioned 26 additional buses being added to the Adelaide Metro Fleet? Where from?
As for Grange "temporary train timetable" I have seen that off-peak services will continue to the City, and the replacement bus service from Grange to Woodville will be dropped!
