Nationalbus / Westrans: No more Boeing

Post by Craig »

Noticed this little tid-bit from the Ventura twitter feed:
Ventura wrote:235 and 237 buses as of 19-12-11 will no longer stop at the boeing carpark. All services will now stop at the ;ast stop on Wharf Road.
There doesn't seem to be any other references to this change on the Metlink or Ventura websites, or the CDC website (Route 606 to Elsternwick).

There is a bus turn-around area outside the gate, presumably this will be used from Monday. The terminus was located on private land, inside the factory gates - I suspect that Boeing want to reclaim the land used for the bus terminus for employee carparking? The Christmas break would be an ideal time for them to conduct any roadworks.

Kind Regards

Craig :)

From my observations not many at all - and I have been there when a shift finished, and several cars left around the same time.

The few that did use the stop, they can still walk a couple of minutes down Wharf Rd to board the bus.

Kind Regards

Seems this has been postponed a few days...

To improve the efficiency of the service, bus routes 235, 237 and 606 will no longer enter the Boeing carpark from Friday, 23 December 2011.

All services will now terminate at a new stop on Wharf Road, outside the carpark gates.
Kind Regards

On talking to a driver today who has driven the route for 18 years, he said that there were plenty of workers who used the bus, in fact, it had been increasing. The increase was due to extra work, and extras workers, that Boeing has acquired in recent years. However, this has also meant more workers with cars. The internal bus stop has made way for car park extensions. The new terminus is about 200 metres from the old one.
