Kinglake shuttle bus

Post by tarranginnie »

Discovered this timetable.
I presume that it is a temporary service to supporirest the residents of Kinglake during the recovery and revuilding phase after the fires.
I dont know who operates it, but its quite a reasonable service - 7 days too.

EDIT Ah - yes I do know who's operating it - Dysons.

There's one every weekday leaving Kinglake round 7am and returning around 3.50pm from Greensborough. In fact, it's also marked on the free shuttle bus timetable.

No, the one I'm talking about was more like a community bus, and only run one day a week.

Victorian Government wrote:
Trial bus route to begin in Kinglake
Monday, 29 August 2011

From the Minister for Public Transport
A new bus route will begin in Kinglake as a six-month trial, Minister for Public Transport Terry Mulder announced today.

Member for Seymour, Cindy McLeish, welcomed the bus service trial.

"This new bus service is great news for the local community. In particular, I'm sure students, the elderly, and those without access to a car will appreciate this public transport boost," Ms McLeish said.

Mr Mulder said that the new bus route will be known as Route 565 and will run between Kinglake and Whittlesea, six days a week.

"I am very pleased that we have been able to work with the local community to come up with a solution that will help to address their transport needs," Mr Mulder said.

"The new Route 565, to be operated by Dyson's Bus Services, will begin on Monday, 12 September and will operate as a six month trial to help to assess the community's support of the service.

"The shuttle bus that previously operated between Kinglake and Whittlesea had very low passenger numbers. I encourage residents to jump on board when this route starts to ensure it remains viable," Mr Mulder said.

Route 565 will provide two morning and two afternoon trips on weekdays, and one trip in each direction on Saturdays.

Passengers will need to purchase a Zone 2 myki or Metcard to travel. Metcards are available from the bus driver.

Ms McLeish said passengers wanting to travel south beyond Whittlesea would be able to catch this new bus to connect with Route 562 buses to Greensborough. This means Kinglake residents can use public transport to access, RMIT and Tram Route 86 at Bundoora, as well as Hurstbridge line trains, SmartBus Route 901 at South Morang and other local bus services.

"Thanks go to residents who provided their local knowledge to help inform the timetabling of this trial route, which will help to ensure the bus route meets local needs," Ms McLeish said.

Route maps and timetable information will be available from Metlink on 131 638 or at http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au
Times are inculded in the media release:
From Kinglake - Weekdays at 07:05 and 09:15, Saturdays at 09:55
From Whittlesea - Weekdays at 16:50 and 19:20, Saturdays at 17:45

These times incorporate the current 562 trips that extend to Kinglake - effectively there is only one additional return trip being added on weekdays.

Kind Regards

Craig :)

Timetable and map for 565 is now online - http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/route/view/5656

I note the route map says the bus will only operate to Kinglake Neighbourhood house until October. :?

An updated 562 timetable is also online (the current Kinglake extension will be renumbered to 565).

Kind Regards

Dysons also put a post up on Twitter regarding the new service linking to the article on their website:

There is also an ad in this week's Diamond Valley Leader on the same page as the letters about the new trial service.

There's also a new timetable online for the 562.

Interesting to see that the 16:05 ex-Greensborough is still noted as continuing to Kinglake.
