I don't doubt your observation that Cardinia Transit has changed their roster meaning that trips are now formed by different trips than pre Jan 30th.

In in this case an 840 trip now forms an 837 service, rather than another 840 service. There are probarly other changes like these you haven't come across yet.

But the fact remains - the times along the 837 is unaltered, even if trips are now subject to more late running than previous as a result of the trip now be formed by an 840 service.

If the 837 didn't share it's timetable with the 839, new timetables probarly wouldn't have even been issued for 837.

Kind Regards

Where are correct times?

Post by Richmond boy »

There is something wrong with the new 837/839 timetable with and effective date of 30 January 2006. The 6:31am service to Telford Dve goes to Wood Rd first and departs Berwick Station at 6:17am. Im not sure about what the 7.37pm Monday-Friday service does once it gets back to Berwick Station from Wood Rd at 7.51pm. I was only told this today (Friday 26 May 2006) by Tony (a bus driver for Cardinia Transit).

Luke,

Thanks for mentioning this.

A look at the 839 timetable on the Metlink Website does indeed indicate that the 06:31 Route 839 service ex Berwick Station actually starts at Berwick at 06:17, and runs via Berwick South (Wood Rd).

And the 19:37 839 trip to Berwick South (Wood Rd) is also shown to continue onto Berwick North (Telford Dr) at 19:51.

I'm wondering if these were not actual mistakes, but last minute changes made once passengers complained that the first bus on 839 to Berwick South (Wood Rd) was 20 mins later & last 839 to Berwick North (Telford Dr) became 20 mins earlier than previously? :?:

The 837 & 839 routes must rate amongst the Melbourne's most confusing, alongside the likes of Driver's 624 & 627. It would make sense if 837 & 839 were only Berwick - Berwick South - Berwick section, and two new numbers were used (eg 835 & 836) for the Berwick - Berwick North - Berwick legs of the routes.

Kind Regards

Because Metlink host Cardinia Transit timetables on their site?

Because Metlink call centre staff need to know the most up-to-date timetable?

Because Metlink is the marketing & information body for all public transport in Victoria.

Because these were actual changes, as opposed to Route 837 trips now being formed by 840 trips, but due at the same time? :P

Dear all,

Why isn't the Metlink website showing the maps of route 839 (http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/time ... &id=MTB839) and route 840 (http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/time ... &id=MTB840)?

Possibly they don't have the current route maps on the server?

At one stage a pre-August 2002 route map was shown, which was pointless (839 Fountain Gate - Oaklands Estate & 840 Fountain Gate - Brentwood).

There are also other outdated maps - for example the 888/889 map shows the 889 going via Valewood.

Luke, I suggest you email them to ask them why they aren't online.

Kind Regards

Dear all,

Im not sure in you have noticed this but the 840 that has an effective date of 30 January 2006 has the wrong 840 map.

It shows the route going via Toptani Drive NOT via Robinswood Parade and on to Heritage Drive.

Shoudn't thwey have the correct maps not the in-correct maps????

Luke

Yes, I've noted this too Luke. The 830/1 timetable issued 30/1/06 also features an outdated map. In both cases the previous edition of the timetable had the correct map...

Well spotted anyway!

Dear all,

Why is it that on the orange and white timetables by Grenda bus companies don't display the direction of routes, where is that on the new routes like the 926, 927, 928 and 929 it does?

Luke

When Grenda's changed the interior layout of it's timetables in late 2003 (namely changing the way the actual timetables were shown) they replaced the "Route Description" with the "General Information" dot-points, even where space to list the route description was still available.

Since the partial adoption of the Metlink format, they are now including route descriptions again, even in the 827/8 pocket timetable.

Kind Regards

Craig,

Don't you think that they should put the description of routes in the timetables though?

Yes, most certainly. Especially as some routes are complicated and Metlink maps aren't always easy to follow / or show enough detail.

In fact, I actually emailed Grenda's about the lack of the route descriptions in the first Orange & White timetable to omit it (843/45/49/61), which also has a blank page which could fit it, suggesting they should consider continuing to place route descriptions where space permits. I'll try to see if I've still got the response on my old computer for you, but it wasn't encouraging.

I note Ventura no longer is including route descriptions in their timetables, following on for National's long standing attitude not to include them either.

Kind Regards

Craig,

Have you even spotted that on the Metlink website for route 840 (http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/time ... &id=MTB840) it shows the direction of route, and then says that 840 goes via Toptani Drive?

Regards,

Luke
