Our Mother in Dresden

Post by Mother »

I am now nearly through a coach tour of Germany, and spent about 18 hours in Dresden.

This city has a VW plant, where you can see the assembly line from the street, thanks to a wall of windows.

I also saw one of the city's articulated trams in their delivery court. The tour guide explained that there are 3 trams that are painted all-over blue, with CAR GO TRAM on the front and rear destos, and these are used as freight trams solely for the delivered of the component parts of these VWs, which will be asssembled at the plant. I saw one go past Me in the main street of the CBD, but unfortunately was not quick enough with My camera.

This is weird typing this posting, by the way, as nearly every word is being underlined in red, as this computer in Germany is not recognising most of My words as having valid spellings.

Beautiful photos, Albion1881, and thank you for posting them for Us all.

Hi to Mr Obsessed. Dresden was a quick visit (makes it sounds like a dunny, doesn't it), followed by 3 nights in fascinating Berlin, then 2 nights in Vienna, and I'm now on a lunch break in Budapest Tuesday 3rd August. This current tour will visit Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia.

By the way, have I ever told you I'm rather partial to long service leave?

Ah, maybe someone could do the Honours on My behalf. Every group should have a substitute Mother. Maybe Nikki Webster should make a special guest appearance.

You could ask one of your favourite IF's from ferral valley to help, but she'd be too busy shooting up and riding her latest bogan bloke to help.

You've got to hand it to the Germans when it comes to thinking outside the square: a cargo tram!

I see ALBION1881's photo attachments of the CarGoTram have been lost from the system, so here's another one:

Many thanks for supplying that picture <smarTTrams>.

It's good to remind Us all of the incredible can-do attitude of politicians and transport providers in Europe and in many other parts of the world.

Amsterdam had the idea to suply the shops in the city centre by tram. They could not find a spot to unload the tram in the city centre. I do not know where the vehicle is.

Cargo Trams

So Amsterdam and Dresden have cargo trams. I wonder if any other systems have them?

In Zurich, Switzerland, there is a cargo tram system and they have a garbagetram system...
Look at: http://www.proaktiva.ch/tram/zurich/cargotram.html (in English)
