Wandering around Pune Junction

Post by dude »

I'm over here on business for 2 weeks and last Sunday had a spare few hours to wander around Pune Junction station. Pune (Pronounced Poona) is a medium sized city by Indian standards (yet still 3 million people live here), is around 300km's from Mumbai up on the Deccan plateau and is where the electrified main line from Mumbai ends. There's usually a half hour to an hour dwell while locomotives are changed. Pune also has a few of the EMU's to run local services, similar to those used in the larger cities.

One of the local EMU's arriving at Pune Jn.

One of the inter-city trains has arrived and it's diesel will soon be replaced with an electric locomotive.

The train above has now had its loco change and is heading out of the station bound for Mumbai.

The EMU from above is now heading out of Pune on a local trip

Another diesel has arrived and is having an electric loco attached. No those guys aren't connecting the locomotives to the cars, they're sweeping the excrament down the drain that comes from people not obeying the don't use the loo's at the station sign.
