Actually there were three monthly publications in the Shennen Publishing stable:
*Transportation (1936-2003) https://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Record/2326576 renamed Truck & Bus Transportation 1940 https://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Record/799771
*Railway Transportation (1951-1974) https://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Record/1673427 renamed Railway & Urban Transportation in 1974 https://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Record/1418642
*Freight & Container Transportation (1967-1985) https://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Record/608854 primarily focussed on the sea and air freight industries
All were written by the same core staff, some articles appearing in more than one publication simultaneously. Was funny how each would take a different editorial slant on an issue to suit the leanings of their respective audiences. T&BT may have been complaining about how the government was propping up rail services, while RT would be complaining about the government investing in roads and not rail.
But they were certainly very well published with a good mix of local content and articles reproduced from their equivalents in the UK and US. They were very much industry bibles. Unfortunately like many industry publications as advertising revenue subsided, so did the quality and while the latter two had the grace to go out while still good publications, T&BT was somewhat diminished when it closed.

Re: Industry / Enthusiast Publications
Shennen's could probably be described as "old school" journalism and production.
I think they lost of market and revenue share to modern slick glossy upstarts, with little in depth transport knowledge.

The quality of these Shennan publications was very much down to Geoff Johnson who was a train as well as road transport enthusiast.

Shennan also used to publish the Ford Magazine.
