Qantas & A380s
Qantas has cancelled its order for eight Airbus A380s. It currently has 12 A380s. The list price is said to be A$628M each, with much discussion re discounts.....

Re: Qantas & A380s
Is this suggestive of the manufacturer needing to offer discounts to shift inventory.....??

Re: Qantas & A380s
It has often been suggested in aviation circles that there are discounts for bulk-buys.
But seems that, apart from ME operators, there is little demand for them any more already.

Re: Qantas & A380s
There is a suggestion that Emirates, who are the only customer with significant orders for A380s, are investigating switching these to smaller aircraft which would bring production of the A380 to a close. And there is seemingly no second-hand market with some of the early Singapore Airlines examples scrapped at the end of their 10 year leases. It's a great plane, but doesn't appear that it will wrestle the crown as the greatest aircraft of all time from the 747.

News of their demise, brother, may, at this point be a little premature.

Perhaps not https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-02-08/ ... r/10794000 specifically, "Barring a surprise agreement to prop up the A380, Airbus is preparing to close production of the double-decker earlier than planned"stajourneyman wrote:News of their demise, brother, may, at this point be a little premature.
Re: Qantas & A380s
These have been pretty much cancelled for many years.
It's not a price issue - Airbus is already losing money on the small number they are producing.
The 12 work fairly well for Qantas, but they'd struggle to fill any more profitably.
As above this is just a clearing of the decks for a likely closure of the line, and a shrink of the final number to be delivered to Emirates.
Just not enough future demand to invest in a new more efficient model with new engine, and the lack of a used market means they're difficult to finance.

Another site I found a couple of days ago claimed that Emirates still had around 40 on order.stajourneyman wrote:https://www.airfleets.net/flottecie/Emirates.htm

Re: Qantas & A380s
According to http://australianaviation.com.au/2019/0 ... 380-order/ Emirates has 53 on order (doesn't split out how many are firm and options though), but Airbus have acknowledged that it is in negotiations with the airline to convert some of these orders to A350s.

Err, Linto63 my response was based on your comment that said (in part) "some of the early Singapore Airlines examples scrapped at the end of their 10 year leases."
