Remote airstrips

Post by TA3001 »

I found this in GE whilst roaming through the aerial imagery. It is about 13kms east of Whyte Yarcowie in SA. It almost looks like it has been recently used for some reason. Does anyone know anything more about it? Is it related to WW2, or something else? It is near a locality called Wonna. The coords are roughly -33.255929 139.019761.

Surprising, as it doesn't look like there are any above ground thriving metropolises within the vicinity.

There are lots of these air strips in rural areas. These are usually for emergency RFDS flights to land if someone nearby requires urgent medical assistance, the patient will then be flown to the nearest capital city for emergency treatment.
