Rebodying Buses.
Re: Rebodying Buses.
The transplanted timber framed body on m/o 4898 obviously reached the end of its life as this chassis was rebodied in 1974. The chassis was extended, fitted with a perkins 6.354 motor + Allison auto gearbox and rebodied by Smithfield with body SB418 24/7/74 B46FR. This "new" bus was registered m/o 227 at Harris Park Transport.

Disappointed that "Rebodying Buses" got a mention in "The Private Bus Industry in NSW" but not one photo appeared! I appreciate the amount of work involved in the book but as we can see it was a big part of the industry during and after the war.

Re: Rebodying Buses.
Thanks for the update on m/o 4898 VIKing, it certainly had a chequered history by accomplishing two versions of the chassis/ body swap.VIKing wrote:The transplanted timber framed body on m/o 4898 obviously reached the end of its life as this chassis was rebodied in 1974. I imagine swapping the timber framed body onto its new chassis would not have been an easy job and would have strained quite a few of those wooden joints, still an after life of 9 years for it was not too bad.
