Space junk

Postby eddy » Tue Dec 29, 2015 6:06 am

Watched the SBS space junk TV documentary last night http://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/video/58 ... Space-Junk

I delivered satellite phones a few times to the Dubbo satellite tracking station 10 years ago and there were 6 guys there just steering their satellites through space junk all the time.

China wanted to show the world how clever they were by shooting down one of its old satellites.

Well they really demonstrated how smart they were as it increased the known space junk from 10,000 pieces to 12,000 pieces.

One American guy says that eventually there could be a domino effect where they all go down in a very short time wiping out GPS, communication, defense and weather satellites.
