Narrow Enviro 500

Post by Tim Williams »

Quite suprisingly, Alexender Dennis would appear to pressing ahead with a narrow version of the Enviro 500 to suit our regulations and I guess New Zealands (where there is an order O/S) - a news headline reported in the June issue of Buses Magazine. As said previously, the estimated market for deckers here is only up to 130 units per annum and there are both Volgren and Bustech with models currently available, so it hardly seems would AD's trouble!

The Enviro 500 needed to be narrowed to suit NZ so as a by product it now suit's Australia. As part of this the price of the ADL unit may be better than the others also remembering that they have been building these for many years so the product it well tested. Still needs to be sold to the Customer in the long run.

The first 40 of the narrow E500 is slowly getting delivered to Rapid KL in Kuala Lumpur, and will be in service by September, meanwhile the 15 for Howick, first two will be fully assembly by ADL in Falkirk and the rest will have chassis built in Malaysia and bodied locally by Kiwibus, delivery due in late September early October, and hopefully will be followed by 23 for NZ bus in Auckland

As a growth of double Decker market in New Zealand, Designline is currently building 3 Scania K320 and 15 BCI tri axle Decker as an answer to locally designed and built decker for the market

I noted in "Buses Magazine" this month that the KL Enviro 500's were also narrow, which is obviously different to their neighbours in Singapore. I think these KL buses a little lower at 4.2 metres.

Correct Tim, they are 4.25m, can tell by the distance between the lower deck and the top of the wheelarch

And the KL buses are Euro 3
