Notice Premier's Sydney - Melbourne service is no longer showing on their timetable links. https://www.premierms.com.au/newhome/Ti ... Select.asp Presumably it has ceased, anybody know when?

Melbourne has also dropped out of the scroll at the top of the page. So it appears to have gone.

Not surprising as outside of some holiday times it was generally pretty empty in an out of Melbourne.

I remember many years ago traveling on the Sydney to Melbourne via the South Coast service when Greyhound were doing the service the coach I had on that service was a Silver Eagle with a four speed crunch gearbox and back then the service started emptying of passengers onwards into Melbourne. It was long haul via the South Coast to Melbourne.

Yes it has, with last trip made on December 12th 2014.

http://www.edenmagnet.com.au/story/2736 ... vice-axed/
Travellers left scrambling as bus service axed By Blake Foden .
Eden travellers have been left scrambling to make last-minute arrangements ahead of the Christmas holiday period, following Premier Motor Services’ decision to cancel its Eden to Melbourne midnight bus service.

The bus will make its last trip to the southern city next Friday, December 12, leaving only the daily V-Line service as a direct option for travellers heading to Melbourne.

Premier Motor Services said the service was axed because it was deemed no longer viable due to a combination of poor passenger loadings and a recent legal interpretation, but made no further comment.

Passengers affected by the cancellation have been offered a refund or alternate product, but a regular user of the service said its loss is a big blow to locals both ahead of the holidays and long-term.

Eden resident Adele Chomatek said she travels on the midnight bus 3-4 times per year, and has always found the demand so high it is difficult to find a seat.

“I went down about five weeks ago, and there were four of us who got on in Eden,” Ms Chomatek said.

“That bus is always full and every night I’ve been on there, you struggle to find a seat.

“A number of my friends use it regularly as well, and they’ve all said the same.

"I don't know how the V-Line bus will cope with the demand."

Ms Chomatek said she was forced to make alternate plans and book a flight for a pre-Christmas trip to Melbourne, after she received a call two weeks ago from Premier Motor Services to tell her the bus would no longer be running.

She said its loss will make it harder for many locals to travel south.

“It was a great service – because it left at midnight, you were able to get down there early in the morning,” she said.

“V-Line’s no good for me because it leaves around 8am – I work during the week, so if I go to Melbourne, it has to be on the weekend.

“By the time I get there on V-Line, one day’s wasted and I have to come back almost straight away.

“There would be a lot of people in the same boat as me.”

The Magnet has contacted Member for Bega, Andrew Constance, for comment on whether he will be raising the issue with Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian, but he is yet to respond.

With the V-line services one service leaves Narooma Monday,Wednesday and Thursday at 5:40am and then change to a train at Bairnsdale 12:45pm arriving in Melbourne at 4:35pm and the other V-line leaves Batesman Bay Tuesday and Friday at 5:05am and then change to a train at Bairnsdale 12:45pm arriving Melbourne at 4:35pm this would be a pain in the neck for residents living along these V-line coach routes wanting to go to Melbourne.

That's a shame whilst they have money for to purchase Greens Northern Coaches, they don't have money to maintain the South Coast - Melbourne service.

I wonder did they ever take any effort to lobby TfNSW or TfV to subside that service and absorb it into the NSW TrainLink or V/Line network.

Well now I hope the local MPs and residents on the South Coast and East Gippsland will lobby the Government to increase service frequency on the V/Line bus so to maintain the service level.

City rail I am sure Premier would of taken all steps to maintain this service. Unfortunately with the high costs of running these days combined with the low price of airfares it was only a matter of time before this service which is duplicated with the v-line service became a casualty. A s with Greens takeover I am sure the 2 business models of PMS and PI Are run as two different entity's.

They're a business, not a charity.

Remember that privately branded interstate coach services are generally not subsidised in the same way as say NSW TrainLink coach services are.

Is there a low-cost airline flying from Melbourne to anywhere on the NSW South Coast ?

The only airline service at all is the once-daily REX flight from Melbourne to Merimbula.

Premier still run a service between Sydney and Eden. If this is complemented by a V Line service in the Melbourne direction, then the whole coast is still covered.

Does the timetable give them a reasonable connection at Eden?

I understand a bus company is not a NFP, but at least they should lobby to get the government to subsidise, and if not, make sure the public blame their government.

Remember, brand and reputation which matters.

Is there such a connection in the first place? I am not aware of such a VLine service from Eden.

Or in Batemans, Narooma or anywhere along the way. Problem is the Vline services leave too early and get back too late.

Probably not for the people who are currently using those services.

Stupid part is you catch a Vline coach but then you catch a train at Bairnsdale to finish off the trip into Melbourne why not run the coach all the way into Melbourne. And that for the outbound service train to Bairnsdale then a Vline coach to either Narooma or Batesman Bay.

How is that stupid at all? I don't see why one government funded regional service needs to duplicate another one for 3.5 hours.

Most people would rather get off the coach that they've been on for several hours and get onto a train which has a buffet service and first class anyway.
