Teen takes wheel to prevent bus crash

Police have praised a 16-year-old girl who took the steering wheel of a bus to prevent a serious accident on a Queensland highway early on Friday morning.

The bus with about 20 children on board was eastbound on the Warrego Highway around 3am (AEST) when the driver began to feel faint about 500 metres from the Muckadilla Hotel, west of Brisbane.

It is believed the driver attempted to pull the coach over to the side of the road, but blacked out.

The bus left the road, ran into a dry creek bed and struck a road sign, narrowly missing a concrete drain.

Police say a 16-year-old girl took control of the steering wheel and corrected the bus back onto the road.

The bus driver then regained consciousness and helped the girl to stop the bus outside the hotel.

No passengers were injured during the incident.

The driver was taken to hospital for observation but later released.

Police are not expected to take any action against the driver.
Better have driven then never to have driven at all. Even better to have driven them all.
