Board time.
I notice that the current time shown on the board is about 2.5 mins ahead of "real" time obtained from normally accurate sources like the internet (as shown in the operating system), phone time and radio pips.
Is this a deliberate "error", or is it server controlled??

Re: Board time.
Haha, I was about to put a thread up about this too, although I was worried I might be accused of being a bit pedantic, but yeah you're right, it is about 2.5mins ahead, and I notice it has been increasing ahead ever since the server change.

Re: Board time.
It's a Server side issue.
When I find the right command to use ill get it to change.

CentOS? I'd say so given it's got CPanel.
Meaning that, You'd be typing in the following:syntax : user@servername# date [-u|--utc|--universal] [MMDDhhmm[[CC]YY][.ss]]
Of course, This would change to be (For example now...) "03 OCT 2012 18:35:00"user@servername# date --set="18 APR 2012 15:20:00"

Re: Board time.
Microsoft has a time source server, so the server hosting ATDB should have as part of its operating system a command to check & update time at least once a day.
I know my own IBM compatible computer checks and updates time with Microsoft's time source server once a day, which means I have never had to manually correct the clock on my computer.

Re: Board time.
CentOS is not windows. There's large differences in the background of the OS. Yes, It's possible, But it'd take a lot of doing and I don't think poor PRT-065 gets paid enough to do so.drpeps wrote:Microsoft has a time source server, so the server hosting ATDB should have as part of its operating system a command to check & update time at least once a day.
Manual time-set is better anyway - More reliable than an internet server, and you can set it off your system time.

Re: Board time.
Through Cpanel we do have the option to Synchronise with there NTP (network time Protocol) server. However while it is receiving the correct time it is not applying.

Re: Board time.
Yes it seems to be right on now.
Now tomorrow those users in states where daylight savings comes in will have to remember to set the Daylight Savings option in their profile to get the right time. I have already done mine.

Re: Board time.
The time shown doesn't update, so if you stay on a page for more than 60 secs, it will be wrong anyway.

Re: Board time.
The same goes for any other info displayed on the page. It is only current at the time the page is loaded. I find myself using the refresh short cut key (F5) quite often to ensure I am always looking at the latest data.

Re: Board time.
Well that is odd, it at first showed 19:10:48 seconds. Reload the page, and it showed 19:10:07 (AEST - I might change it to DST). Yet the correct time when I took note, was about 20:25, so about 15 minutes behind real time.

Re: Board time.
On my display, it doesn't show any seconds, just Hr:min.
On Pro-silver the time is only on the Index page, in sub silver it is on every page.

Re: Board time.
The Board index, the only page the time appears, but it's still 15 minutes slower than real time when set to NSW/Vic/Tas time.

Re: Board time.
I am using that time band, and it shows correctly on my screen.
Does NF have the same problem if he switches to subsilver ??
I normally use subsilver, but if I go to prosilver, I lose the "view new posts" menu option on every page.

Now can someone please tell why subsilver is called subsilver, when it has a blue look?

have you tried to refresh the page when this happens?Newcastle Flyer wrote:The Board index, the only page the time appears, but it's still 15 minutes slower than real time when set to NSW/Vic/Tas time.
And as far as the name subsilver is concerned, that was devised by the people who wrote the software, not us so we have no control over that.

Re: Board time.
I noticed the board time has started to get out of whack again. About a minute or so ahead again and increasing weekly...

Re: Board time.
I've noticed that as well. Appears the whole system is not doing a regular time sync with an authorised time source.

Re: Board time.
Unfortunately due to the type of virtualisation being used for this server it is not possible to either manually set the time or retrieve the time from a NTP server.
