I'll go that too I must say they are all great, but Connex for the out of line numbers & scrolling the 1 the wrong way to start with "brilliant"

I like the Connex entry. However, I see one snag. It is Sydney-centric (which in itself is no bad thing) but I presume that the winner will be used on all parts of the site, not just the Sydney pages.

That's a good idea. I'll make a mock up when I've got a bit more time. :)

And here's the Australian capital city version, with Wellington added to the mix. Also altered the colours of the numeral rolls, but not 100% sure if it's yellow.

Capital cities are listed in no particular order. :P

I'd like to give my thanks to Daniel and the admin team for coming up with the idea of the competition. I'd also like to thank Boronia for his suggestion for capital cities, Lemon for the scrolling number idea, and everyone else who voted for it. :)

Here's to a wonderful festive season to all on Bus Australia. :!:

A few years back, there was a website that had similar scrolling displays of Sydney tram destination rolls.
It was fascinating to watch them go from one end to the other.

The links I had have gone 404, but your effort is a great reminder of it.

Well done Connex. Can you provide some simple guidance on how we can all do that?

Thanks mate. :)

The desto was developed on Adobe Flash, using different layers and tweens.

The base layer was completely black, and other layer were developed on Photoshop.

Placing the above layer on top of the black background, a text layer was inserted between the background and the destination with the gaps cut out.

Tweens were created between the static text blocks, with the first and last frame displaying Seasons Greetings in the same position. The list of destinations needs to have Seasons Greetings listed first and last so that when the GIF repeats itself, Seasons Greetings is displayed in the same position and thus appears as a loop.

With the right most number roll, a list of "0 1 2" was made, and the tweens move up and down as per the list of destinations.

The overall animation is then exported as a GIF file in the smaller image size that fits the given ratio.

Probably not the best explanation, but it makes sense in my head. :P
