Took me a while to figure out how to do but yes it seems to have done the trick.

Before that I tried IE and it worked there - I usually use Firefox.

I tried to logon to the Wiki today, however a message came up saying my IP was blocked and some countries were blocked for spam.

My IP - 122.***.***.*** (obviously I'm not going to post that here)

I'm accessing in Australia, not going through a proxy server or anything. Is there any reason why I can't access it? It's not the first time I've accessed it, but the first time I've been blocked from accessing it.

The Wiki is now over 5 years old and started off with a bang with all members of the board being able to post and amend pages in the Wiki.

However as time went on it was taken over by a lot of Spam and to stop this access was restricted with special access being required other than just membership of this board.

Since then there has been virtually no activity at all with many pages now totally out of date. The Ventura page http://www.bus.org.au/index.php?title=Ventura_Group is a very good example of this since the recent changes to the routes operated by them.

Personally I try to keep a couple of pages up to date like the one on the Sydney bus regions, Opal card and Sydney Transport but even in the latter I am sure there are things which need further updating.

Until recently I also did some update to the Veolia Transport NSW page but now with the change to Transdev I am not sure whether to further update that page or create a new one to also include the ex Shorelink part of the Transdev operation.

I have noticed that MAN 16.242 has done some recent updates on Melbourne Bus Link but even those do not include the fact that they no longer exist.

In the last 500 changes which seems the maximum which can be displayed there are only changes by myself plus a lot of spammers being blocked.

So what should we do to get this moving again as the value of this is decreasing all the time.

I don't think enough people even know about the wiki, to be honest. Given the right people (as in, a limited amount of dedicated wiki contributors who can only create an account here), the Bus Wiki could easily be the next VicSig in terms of information. Of course though, wikis are very bandwidth-intensive, especially when images start being added for literally thousands of buses. That said, it would make the current BA fleet lists and photo gallery redundant if these were moved to the wiki.

The down side to the wiki currently is that spambots have taken over, however they seem to be limited to their own profile pages. The latest ones seem to all have the same design, an 8-letter lowercase username (a capital letter is added as per wiki design) and most have created a new account between January 2011 through 17 June 2012 (mass username creation), and 23 October 2012. The latest spambots (October 2012) are constantly editing their own profile pages with garbage, as spambots generally do, while the older ones cannot edit anything (these have probably already been disabled).

Things have not improved since my previous post where I mentioned the Ventura Page in our Wiki as an example of being out of date http://www.bus.org.au/index.php?title=Ventura_Group
There now seem little purpose in further updating this as there is a better page elsewhere http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ventura_Bus_Lines

Other examples of wiki pages outside our wiki are
State Transit NSW http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_Tran ... outh_Wales
Torrens Transit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torrens_Transit
McVicars http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McVicar%27s_Bus_Services
And there are many more.

I am proposing to remove the link tour wiki from the Bus Australia home page and replace it with a link to a new page which will contain links to the examples shown above plus others which I will try to locate.

I would retain a link to our Wiki for historical purposes.

There is one Opal related page in there which is currently being updated by one of our members and I would also add a specific link to that page concerned.

Any comments are welcome.

Just a quick scratch start for this http://www.busaustralia.com/buswikipages.php
One advantage of these pages is that most if not all of these pages are open to public updating so that if you find anything wrong, you can update it as I have done for some of these pages.

I have now changed the link on the Bus Australia home page to the new list of wiki links which at the bottom has a link to the Bus Australia wiki which is now virtually totally out of date.

I will be adding links to the list on a daily basis for some time as I have found heaps of such links.
