New Forum Software Installed

Post by Ken »

The newly released version of the phpbb forum software has been loaded onto this site.

What most people will notice at first is the altered look of the forum.

Don't worry though if you don't like this new look - you can change your settings so it looks like it used to.

You can do this by clicking "User Control Panel" at the top left of the page (this is an expanded version of the 'Profile' page which gives you more options to do things). Click the "Board Preferences" tab, and select 'subsilver2' in the option 'My Board Style', then click Submit. You can change this back to the new prosilver appearance at any time should you wish to do so.

This new software has significantly more functionality available to users. Some of these features will be available instantly to users while others may need to be manually enabled by Administrators.

Hopefully people will enjoy this new software. If anyone notices any problems or something isn't working then please reply to this thread or send me a PM.

Regards,
Ken.

Nice update, thanks for doing it.

One thing though, I really like the new theme, but is it possible to have the avatars etc back on the left? Not a problem if it isn't, I just prefer it that way.

Change the skin to subsilver. That will return the look to how it used to look before

We would encourage all users to at least try the new theme; it has a few extra features, and although it makes some quite drastic changes to the layout and so-forth, it is the more modern theme exclusively designed for this version of phpBB.

We recommend this because all future upgrades to other areas of the site will assume use of the new forum skin for integration purposes.

I think I've found a bug :?

After going through the photo section, it seems the new skin chops the RHS of the pics out. I found this when looking at the thread about Busways #551, when I replied this arvo to it, the photos were fine, on looking now, they have been chopped

Those pictures are oversized and therefore violate board rules.

It is done on purpose to stop oversize images or links from resizing the whole page, which is an incredible nuisance.

There is a "fix", but if people would look at the rules we wouldn't need it!

It affects the proSilver theme only

Can you tell me where the Next and Previous thread buttons have disappeared to?
I am pretty dependant on these as I go to the oldest thread with new posts and work my way up from there! :(

edit: I'm talking while in prosilver format. I changed to subsilver and they were back again!

I've noticed peoples photos at 800x600 are being cut off, is this just me or everyone?

Do we have to make our photos a smaller size now?

I just made a little tweak to the prosilver theme to prevent this from happening.

What it should do now is if photos are oversize it will reduce them on your screen. Very handy.

Let me know if it isn't working properly or if there are any other problems noticed.

Why is it 800 pixels wide now? It used to be 820. Can we have it back to 820 please?

The new look is a good, and the features come in rather handy. However, I've noticed that clicking on embedded links in posts now opens the page in the same window, whereas previously the link was forced to a new window (IE, Safari) or tab (Firefox, etc). That function was handy (being able to quickly check out a link before going back to the forum, without mucking about with right-clicking or command-clicking), so is it possible to restore it or is it simply an issue with this version?

I use IE and I would prefer it to open with a new TAB rather in the a new Window.

Not sure if the setting can be changed AOTB, but it seems the forums that have this updated software have this issue.

Please keep it at 800.

The change font size comes in handy, especially in the larger resolution.

Personally 1024 would be the best option, but 820 is WHAT THE ORIGINAL FORUM RULES WERE. Why should it be changed to something smaller? Why do we have to suffer cause people have not yet upgraded from 800x600?
