New Thread or heading.
Just a thought, is there any chance of having a heading or thread just for bus graveyard pics, as there a lots coming onto this site now. I spend a lot of time browsing for these old pics and it would be certainly easier if they were grouped under one heading.
Just a suggestion.
Kind regards

Move right to the back of the bus thankyou!!
Now wouldn't you know it just what Centralian and I were discussing in this forum.
So how about it, members need a place to view photo's posted, details of these which we could add details too comments etc.
A data base of historical vehicles us old fellows love the new stuff and some of the new guys love th old stuff.
Our own Wikipedia if you like.

Better start a new thread Centralian
OR maybe its time we ask the board if we can have an area were we can post Historical photo's like these where it would make it easy to locate and link to for discussions for future reference.
One are a for pre 1960 one for 1960 to 1970 one for 1970 to 1980 vehicles
What do you think Board/Admins.
That way photo's could be preserved for the future members as well as old.

Andrew think we need an area were photo's could be posted permanently like the new and old section http://www.busaustralia.com/ on the front page.Andrew wrote:I have requested comment from the other admins - at this stage I am in favour of establishing another section for these types of photos.
Could be done under a data base system year, model, builder, owner/s

We could extend it to a historical page and further.
Having just had a quick look at the fleet listings there could be a link between the two with extended details posted by members.
I know there are books magazines etc articles even personal knowladge that could be added just like the discussion area but to do with vehicles prior say 19** build.

I think Andrew was talking about another section within the discussion board basically split the photo section into "everyday" and "historic" . Am I right?invada1 wrote:Andrew think we need an area were photo's could be posted permanently like the new and old section http://www.busaustralia.com/ on the front page.Andrew wrote:I have requested comment from the other admins - at this stage I am in favour of establishing another section for these types of photos.

If so, I'm all in favour of that - I enjoy seeing the things I remember as a kid and some things that I probably never saw! I'm glad we have members who are able to provide us with these glimpses into the distant or not too distant past....
The trouble with photo's and posts in discussion area is that many outside photo links will one day die or be deleted therefore no longer giving access to those photos.Simes wrote:I think Andrew was talking about another section within the discussion board basically split the photo section into "everyday" and "historic" . If the forum server can handle it would be better for members to post and leave photo's there giving permanent access.
I know my flickr sight will have to be changed as I post other photo's there even if I just posted bus pics as with most linked photo sites there are limits soe are meg others number of pics and/or size.
Having to go through listings of posts to find the image is what guys are doing now and it's a long process and in the event of a crash anywhere all would could be lost
A dedicated historical and even new photo sight would give almost instant access and ease of browsing.
These if possible could be linked to discussions etc as well as fleet listings, plates, body type, manufacturer, company, this could work for the whole of the Australian board states etc as many vehicles ended up in other states as motorhomes, chook, sheds sitting in paddocks waiting to be reborn.

I have just been through from the last page down to about page 23 of the forum of photgraphs and many photo's have already gone links also to web sites which are now defunct.
Members change their providers also and haven't taken their home pages with them some photo accounts if not accessed by the owner are closed after 6 weeks so I have seen from other sites.

Thats becouse we need to remove them from our servers to host other pics.invada1 wrote:I have just been through from the last page down to about page 23 of the forum of photgraphs and many photo's have already gone .
Your idea is valid but I dont think the members should just be able to post pics willy nilly as the space available will eventualy run out, I think a better way would be to forward the pics to an admin who can see if the pic has enough importance/ merit to be on the perminant hosting or go to the regular section and be hosted on the persons own server.
I can just imagine everyone wanting their pics up perminatly and going a little silly.
I personaly have no problem with removing pics after they have been up for a while as it gives me more space for other pics.

I think a site for just posting the older type photos would be self defeating as the enjoyment is in the feedback from people who can add extra detail to the subject shown, take for example the recent post by leopard1543 re; Anzac Parade Jnc. 18/2/61, how it turned up other material.
Maybe a separate site off the ATDBF but with a link from it could be found to store photos that are worth saving.
