MB O305 Progress Shots p6.
Recently completed the rear suspension to a standard that I'm happy with. Will fine tune it at a later date. Enjoy!
Cheers!

Nice work so far tbc1983! Not long now til that body will have to be started!!
Is tehre going to be a bigger differential in the rear axle or is that how big the O305 one is (I haven't really had a look under one I must admit).

Thanks to you both for your positive comments!
Andrew, that is a poper Mercedes Benz Italeri diff which (at the time) Merc used on a number of their trucks and buses; I have glossed over a few pics/brochures showing Merc diffs being like so. The diffs were able to be made smaller due to the planetary hubs, since the diffs weren't the final drive. Why Merc used planetaries on their buses was so the smaller diff could accomodate a chassis of a lesser height, thereby assisting boarding and alighting of passengers and therefore shortening overall journey time.
The lattice chassis is not as weak as it looks, if you were to apply some pressure on the chassis of the model with your finger, the chassis actually resists the pressure; I'm actually quite amazed with the structural integrity of the model!
The engine is not yet complete, nor the chassis. I'm going to fine tune some details and add the steering mechanism. The mechanism won't be 100% functional since Mercedes used a different kind of format for their buses and coaches from their trucks, due to their front overhang. The assembly actually sits inside of the chassis railing on the driver's side (naturally), with a two-stage drag-link which is separated by a transfer mechanism which looks like a crescent moon.
Cheers!

Good luck with the ongoing build.
Are you updating your build at a modeller's forum as well??

That's dedication . I like that!
Will you get the engine to operate?
Maybe run it on kerosene as a scaled down version of diesel fuel.
Good luck with the scaled down transmission inner workings.

While converting the inline engine to a horizontal engine, the transmission had to be shortened to fit. It ended up more realistic since route buses don't have a long, 16sp transmission.Swift wrote:Good luck with the scaled down transmission inner workings.

WOW Your patience and attention to detail is very commendable. Looks absolutely fantastic. Cannot wait to see the finished product. Not being stupid, BUT make sure you INSURE it when finished. Would seem a pity to put all that work into it and lose it in unfortunate circumstances, or someone came past and bumped it. I know all my collectable models/toys are insured. GREAT WORK

Thanks for the compliments!
My intention is to have it stored in a glass cabinent at the clubhouse where I attend most Saturdays; it would never fit in my house.

Not yet, mate. Since then, I've only added a bit of chassis detail, but not enough to warrant new pics.
Thanks foy our interest!

Very interested in this as I reckon you are the first to build an MTT O305 in this scale, well in any scale actually!
