@ Dennis 96 - Yea well, none of us can plan for when we're born and to whom and what's going on in the world at the time, but everyone is different and has their own personal favourites that you can't change.. well it seems it varies depending on whom you speak to but most people are glad that they have lived through a certain time in history.. well for me , it is definitely coming through the late 80s into the 90's and experiencing the birth of the electronic age, the internet, digital media, electronic music etc. I couldn't imagine having to have been handed the task of researching any involved subject 20 years ago without the gift of the internet .. and It could be one such as what is discussed on this very page every week (eg bus fleets inventories thru the years, lifetime history of operations in revenue service of one particular bus etc) but then someone born longer ago and maybe experiencing things such as the swinging sixties and never having had (therefore never missing) the internet may have a very different viewpoint!

p.s. and I don't think that despairing about something new being not as good as something older is limited to any age, I can remember doing it at , well pretty much any age about subjects such as cartoons, comic books, movies and music!

*edit* - dennis96 - on reading your message more closely i noticed your statement about the Mercedes' being designed for a 7 - 10 year life .. well I guess flash forwards to present day and several manufacturers (I won't name names, but think of maybe a particular artic) can actually guarantee this design aspect lol

Unfortunately www.perthbus.info is again experiencing problems - is it just a coincidence that it's Friday afternoon again? The latest suspect cause is webbots which are ignoring the "go away" command & are excecuting too many php commands in their attempt to index the website. I sincerely hope this doesn't result in another weekend-long outage.

Oh yes, often I think I would love to have been born 20 years earlier when all motor vehicles had free-standing head lamps and exposed radiators; to have adult memories of Western Australian trams; to have experienced steam at its zenith on rail; to have been able to travel to the UK on a gracious Orient Line liner or across the Atlantic on the original Queens.

But my circumstances probably would have meant there was no money for overseas travel, not the spare cash to photograph much of it either. The ordinary working man didn't contemplate overseas trips several generations ago, - many didn't own a motor car either. Not forgetting that for many transport enthusiasts in Australia there wasn't the urgency to take many photographs as it was thought it may last forever, poerhaps with tweaks rather than the massive change we saw from the 1960's onwards.

The downside is that if I was a lot older I would probably have died before Herbie got perthbus.info upo and running or too set in my ways to get a PC! Hope it comes back on line soon.

The w@nkers have pulled the plug on the site once again without sufficient explanation. Unfortunately this situation may take longer to resolve as I may need to find a new host. Not happy, Jan.

Don't worry, no data or photos are lost.

Not sure yet how I'm going to overcome this setback, but rest assured I will. This down time may be a good opportunity for my son & I to knuckle down and do the complete restructure we have been envisaging. Once that is done, then the iPhone/iPad version, iGunzel, should be the next step.

Sorry for the incovenience - strangely enough, I, too, use the database quite a bit! It's very frustrating having to manually search records for an answer.

Hi Herbert, if its donations you need to migrate onto a new sever give us an ahoy! I am sure we would put some money towards the up keep! I know I will, after lurking on this forum for quite awhile I used perthbus.info like a bible.

Saying that, if you need another hand, do give me a shout

Yep, I would also render financial assistance, would a paid website be more reliable?

It's an idea that can be floated around, quite simply we could just 'Paypal' the recipitant. Monetry value would go someway to show Herbert how greatful we are of all the hard work you [and fellow boardmembers] have contributed.

Till its reinstated/repaired, it's going to be missed for awhile. As I was going to look up something early this morning and got a shock that the WA Fleet-list was suspended. I hope to see the WA Fleet-list back on-line soon looking forward to a newer look Fleet-list Herbert.

Any chance of getting a approximate date as to when the website may return online? Days? Weeks? Months? Years? Decades? Look forward to it being back online bigger and better!

Just an update: some significant work has progressed on the new database over the last two weekends. Still a long way to go though before anything will be seen on-line, sorry.

Fortunately I've been able to resurrect the photolinks to my ATDB posts.

Thanks ... but not fully back yet. Links will be added progressively, but at least you can search on regos, etc, again & view the monthly update summaries. A bit of "window dressing" done, too, but still a lot of work to be done before the new version can be uploaded.

I quite like the new layout, larch green would have been too dark, so green n white is the next best colour scheme anyway!
