Red and White Coaches, Sandgate Part 1

Postby Car177 » Mon Mar 30, 2009 1:11 pm

Red and White Coaches was an offshoot off the Cribb Island Bus Service owned by the White family.
During the 1970's Cribb Island was taken over to be part of Brisbane Airport.
Cribb Island Bus Service ceased its services being replaced by the council, Red and White Coaches (Phil & Ray White) moved to premises in Connaught Street Sandgate.
During the late 1970's the fleet was sold to various drivers and operated as Red and White Coaches,Freemans Coaches (Roger Freeman,No.19 ) and Peninsula Coachlines (J.Grattan, No.24 ), eventually all passed to Bevan Larsen.
The company has always had an interesting and varied fleet.

I recall the Cribb Island buses were Albions in around 69 to 72 with olf BCC leyland added and some pioneer clippers.

the charter side was leyland coaches, hinos (ex Continental) Neville White had a Freighter that was a pride of the fleet, and also some pioneer clippers.

When the Air Port was built on cribb Island i recall the move to the Sandgate station and Neville Whit had the Freighter, when Larsen remurged the group it continued as a well respected company. its a pity it was sold because to me some of its history died with that sale.
