Maybe it's just for extra cash when the drivers are doing their next service at kingsford or eastgardens.
Eastgardens to Kingsford is a 1-2 section fare.

The whole route would only be 2km at the most, it is used by the elderly/nuns & Brothers of Daceyville as where the bus terminates/starts in Daceyville its practically behind the convent, the funny thing I find is that there is still bus zones on Banks Ave

According to 131500.com, Gwea Ave is about 600m away from Gardeners Road bus stop.

Er running bus routes this short is it a bit of waste of diesel and bus power and the drivers time there must be twenty buses an hour for these two routes and on top of that why don`t sydney buses put words on the side of the welcome to the shortest bus routes in australia maybe the world route660.

Where these buses run there are NO other equivalent services. The people who use them are not capable of getting to their nearest regular bus routes for various reasons.

The 342 would use only a small amount of fuel for the run, and I understand that the time is absorbed from what would otherwise be non-productive lay over time on other routes. Ditto the 341.

The Daceyville terminal is directly outside a senior citizens home. The route was established after the creation of said building, which was once a playground for the Marist Brothers and St Michael's primary schools. School charters can still be seen laying up in Haig Ave. Great to see a MK6 on a 342 run!!

It (341) and the 342 were started after "better buses east" which re routed the 343 that used to serve the streets these two routes serve, there was a backlash locally so they established these two routes - it's cases like this that make me wonder if it's worth setting up another operator tier, the top tier run as things are now, with a lower tier utilising smaller vehicles for shorter runs (run by local councils? many already have community transport operations why not build on that?), especially with the population aging.

The 343 never operated along Banks Ave or anywhere beyond Kingsford, and I think the 342 predated BBE.

The 341 replaced part of the old 358 route from UNSW down to Kingsford, which was abolished under BBE.

Old thread, I know, but it is relevant to the topic.

I’m wondering what the point of route 341 is – now reduced to two return trips per day, along a route which is already served (albeit pathetically) by the 357. Are there really that many people who live in Meeks Street that are incapable of walking one block to either Rainbow Street or Anzac Parade.
Integrated ticketing is a matter for State Government procrastination.
