Route 900 at Chadstone

Postby Craig » Tue Nov 11, 2008 7:36 am

Dear All

Yesterday, Monday November 10, saw services on the Route 900 Snartbus entering Chadstone for the first time, a little over 2 years since the service commenced operation. When the service started it was decided to delay running 900 services into Chadstone until the new bus interchange was opened, which was built as part of the centre's current umpteenth expansion. The new interchange was completed early last month, and a new 900 timetable was started yesterday in conjuction with the latest Connex rail timetable.

This is the first time Eastrans have operated a route through Chadstone Shopping Centre, however Grenda's have operated services to Dandenong from the shopping centre for decades. It joins Ventura's Route 700 as the centre's second Smartbus service.

Firstly, here are some shots of the interim stops that were located outside the shopping centre on busy Dandenong Road. Other than the second shot, all were taken on Sunday 9/11/08.

Passengers wait their eastbound Route 900 service towards Stud Park. For such a major stop, there was little seating or shelter provided for passengers.

Eastrans #117 (Mercedes Benz O500LE, Volgren) pulls in on Stud Park bound service. (Taken 17/10/08)

Grenda's #257 (Mercedes Benz O500LE, Volgren) loads passengers at the eastbound stop.

A passenger waits for a 900 service towards Caulfield.

Loading passengers at the westbound stop is Eastrans #121 (Mercedes Benz O500LE, Volgren) (Apologies for the poor shot)

Below are some shots taken yesterday (10/11/08) of Route 900 buses travelling through Chadstone Shopping Centre.

Eastrans #120 (Mercedes Benz O500LE, Volgren) arrives Chadstone.

Eastrans #119 (Mercedes Benz O500LE, Volgren) waits at Bay 3. Sadly no signage had been erected at the interchange to indicate which bays Route 900 was leaving from, even by late afternoon, with passengers having to remember where they were set down, or otherwise ask bus drivers.

Grenda's #257 (Mercedes Benz O500LE, Volgren) travels through the interchange.

Passengers board Eastrans #116 (Mercedes Benz O500LE, Volgren)

Eastrans #118 (Mercedes Benz O500LE, Volgren) has just come up Middle Road into the centre.

Grenda's #231 (Mercedes Benz O500LE, Volgren) procceds along the shopping centre access road after serving the bus interchange.

Eastrans #118 (Mercedes Benz O500LE, Volgren) leads Grenda's #227 (Mercedes Benz O500LE, Volgren) out of the shopping centre to Dandenong Road.

Grenda's #227 (Mercedes Benz O500LE, Volgren) again.

Kind Regards

Craig :)

The Grenda Merc in the second photo is 259, not 257. Just thought I'd let you know.
