Here's a multi part tribute to the link between buses and Kingsford Smith Airport. Not only have some of these operators and liveries disappeared, but also the 2 airlines shown are no more. Hope these bring back some memories. Enjoy!

TAA operated its own buses between its City terminal in Elizabeth St and Kingsford Smith Airport domestic terminal as well as a connection to the International terminal.

One of their earlier vehicles was this MBA bodied White (Photo from the Ron Drummond collection).

UW616 and UK997 were Waddington bodied Whites. (photo from the Ron Drummond collection)

Typical of TAA in the '70's was NSW registered ESI 993 a Ford R192 with Freighter body of 1972. Seating was provided for 32 passengers and the vehicles had a rear luggage compartment.

Another vehicle that operated in Sydney for TAA was this South Australian registered Ford RXM 289.

ESI 993 is exactly identical to the bus being used by Marist Sisters Woolwich, right down to the twin headlamps-I must post a pic of it. I recall one of these being used by Rydalmere Hospital in 1974-76, probably the same one now at Woolwich.

I remember Cumberland later Metro West operated a CC Ford.I have spotted a few other buses on this chassis over the years.

Definately worth displaying an example or two at a museum.

There were actually quite a few Fords operated by private operators in Sydney. The popular chassis was the Ford R226. North Epping and Nicholson are 2 that come to mind that had a few each while single examples slipped into fleets such as Bass Hill, Blytheway, Cleary Bros, Seven Hills, Bales/Bosnjak at Penrith and more.

The first MBA bodied White type also found its way to Victoria, as can be seen on the Picture Australia website. At least two were onsold to private operators in Victoria, one to Grenda's and another to Ivanhoe BC. Photos exist of both, the latter in the 2005 ABP Special and the former in a publication by the Grenda Corporation (rear only).

The Waddington bodied Whites look a mighty machine. Did they soldier on after TAA?

One of the TAA Waddington Whites was purchased by Royle Bros. in Sydney who registered it as m/o 765 and it had a fairly long life with them.

In centralian's 3rd photo were the ccmc built buses. We towed one back to Adelaide from Sydney with a TAA bus ex Melbourne. My 1st photo posted in this topic. That bus had been mechanically repaired and then repainted in an almost identical livery to the freighter lawton/Leyland below. The ccmc bus was sold to a bus company in the riverland districts, possibly in Renmark.I think the name might be Quervial's.That was around 1971.There was a blurred photo of 2 ex Melbourne TAA MBS Leylands with a ccmc between them.We only had the one ccmc ex TAA bus. There were never any other photos of it.We lost a few of those kodak instamatic cameras with film in them over the years.

I recently became aware of several small private bus operators between 1949 and 1960 with a bus service from Sydney Airport and Zetland
on route no.233. This would have been prior to the International terminal being built. I am interested in finding details of the buses that
operated on this route.
