Sydney-Ex Gov't Atlantean Double Decker in Maroubra.

Postby Swift » Thu Nov 15, 2007 5:55 pm

My mum discovered this gem around the corner from Maroubra Bay Public School. It has been converted as a camper as I saw a toilet in the lower deck next to the staircase .

It was quite exciting to see this here.

Looks like ex 1081 which didn't receive Kirklands' colours.

Fascinating discovery, really. Funny how it got the Kirklands' windscreen treatment but no repaint. I think it saw about 18mths service (in UTA colours) before withdrawal.

Here is 1081 seen in January 1989, the quality of the blue paintwork is evident. Its great to know that some of the guys at Kirklands had a sense of heritage, and the fleet whilst in Kirklands family ownership was a varied mixture of quality vehicles of varying ages.I still feel grateful to have visited the fleet in the depot and seen the buses on the road on a dozen occasions 1988-1991, and of course i treasure the photos too!
