Fantastic stuff. I've always been a little unclear of the early Hino chassis... The only thing I've been able to gather is that 'B' (e.g. BT100) series have front or centre engines and 'R' series have rear engines (e.g. RC320). However, that is a very amatuer approach to the classing. Anyone else know?

First letter would denote engine location, second would denote the suspension utilised. R = Rear, H = Horizontal, rear, B = Centre or Front, C = Centre or front.

Ie, the RB is a rear engined midi bus. RG197K is a rear engined bus with 197hp and leaf springs. RM197K was the same as the RG except with air-bellows suspension (as they called it). HT228 is a rear horizontal engine with 228hp. That is a citybus with a low front floor like an O.405.

What, therefore, would be the explanation of the BG100 model?

Translation of Jim D's post.

Ace Coaches is now known as O'Driscolls after a change of ownership.

Thanks for that, but I was mainly referring to the '100' part. Given that this normally designates the hp rating, this obviously cannot be the case in this instance.

I think there was an RB120 mentioned above. Again, for a full sized bus this could not realistically be the hp rating.

What, therefore does the number indicate in these two cases, and why are they exceptions to a (Hino) 40 odd year rule?

Not sure. Note that the BG was a bit of an anomaly as the BG300P had air suspension. I'd say that the hp designation came in during the mid 80s with the RK176 and AK176. Now Hino uses an even stranger chassis designation where we now have the Hino HS3KRKA and RK3J2S among other weirder and less wonderful designations.

Love the Freighter Leyland with it's destinctive lantern windscreen.Never seen one like that.
Freighter seem to have come out with all sorts of wierd versions of that body.

Interesting that is is a Tiger Cub with those full size wheels it has like a Leopard.

I wonder what powers it?
