Good photos -- thanks for posting them. That's a nice livery.

There appear to be a couple of ex-Adelaide three-door buses in the background of the third (Ford) photo. The bus showing at the left/rear of the Ford bus is a Leyland Royal Tiger Worldmaster. The bus that you can see through the drivers windscreen of the Ford could either be a Worldmaster or an AEC Regal IV. Do you happen to have any photos of those ex-Adelaide buses at Ruttys?

Wow! I never rode in 88, but remember it in service. It was the spare, spare, spare school bus. 6172-ex Hobart AEC(never knew it carried that rego) sat in the yard for years before going to scrap. The background in the 88 shot is interesting - 6260 Adelaide Worldmaster, 6190 Canberra AEC Reliance, another Worldmaster and 6196 Hino BG100. I loved growing up in Wollongong!

Thanks for that bit of info. I think Pearce had 2 of them from memory and I have a pic of one with them but didn't know what happened to it after Pearce.

I'm intrigued by the Ford Chassis.I remember Cumberland operated one through Eastwood in the 1980s and never knew of many others.
It looks as though it uses the running gear from the British made Ford D series trucks that used to ply our streets in great numbers.

Were they powered by a Cummins as the D series were?
Beautiful beguiling Renk Doromat. Bringing visceral joy to driveline connoisseurs. 8)

Don't know much about the technical details of the chassis, but other Ford operators in Sydney in the 70's and '80's were North Epping, Nicholsons, Blythe, Clarksons out at Windsor, Seven Hills, Howes at Richmond, Dural, Hornsby, Gospers of Windsor, Cleary Bros (Merrylands). Drummond also had one. Then there were the Ansett and TAA airport buses (petrol engined R192's I think). Rutty had a few of the R226 chassis with CE/CVI bodies.

I'm quite sure that Rutty probably got both of Pearce's. One was for parts as I found the remains of it (still in Pearce's livery) at Coast Metal Recyclers, Woonona on 1/6/88. I can post a photo of this if you like.
I also use to travel to Springwood High School on them in 1974/5 :!:

Sorry to bring this to the top again. 6188 had a 6.354 Perkins in it.

6188 Rutty's converted this from a forward engine to an underfloor

Admin: It is noted that this and a reply to another Rutty thread bring back old threads to life.

Is there a problem with that?
