Re: Skybus Hobart

Skybus now provides the service between Hobart and the Hobart Airport that was previously provided by Tasmanian Redline Coaches. This service operates between Brooke Street Pier and the airport whereas the Redline Airporter stopped at all Hobart's larger hotels including Wrest Point Casino.

Re: New 284 page Tasmania Transport book

Some of the photo's in the book have reflective number plates on them. Reflective number plates were introduced into Tasmania in April 1970 so I doubt there were any in 1965. The picture of the Tasmanian Coach Lines clipper was taken in October 1971 on the Lyell Highway between Gordon River Road and...

The latest book has a photo of a Cadbury milk tanker on the cover. A single axle Foden with tanker trailer. Tankers supplying Cadbury with milk from the North-West Coast are certainly much bigger today. Bottom photo could be Main road in Moonah not sure.

Re: Hobart Coaches - A tribute to Don Hazell

Don Hazell was very much hands on with Hobart Coaches. Whether it was driving the coaches, organizing freight dispatch or manning the counter at either 60 Collins Street or 4 Liverpool Street Don was always involved one way or another. My son and daughter used to travel on the Friday afternoon coach...

Have noticed that since the introduction of the "400" series to Burnie, have noticed that a couple of "200" series have returned to Hobart still sporting AOA for Burnie and North West Coast businesses.

Last pic is taken outside the Lachlan Hotel at Ouse. Would have been en route from Queenstown to Hobart. Ouse used to be the lunch stop. There used to be a takeaway shop just west of the pub. This shop got burnt down in the early seventies.

I can remember the dark blue uniform back in the early seventies with the greatcoat. Only way drivers could keep warm on the SB3 Bedford's. Talking to a former MTT driver, you had the jacket but no jumper or vest. They were not allowed back then and if you wore a jumper you would be reprimanded.

Tasman Bridge Collapse January 1975

With the 40th anniversary of the collapse of the Tasman Bridge, alternate transport routes come to mind. MTT had to base buses on Eastern Shore to provide feeder services to ferries and regional services had to make alterations as well. Tasmanian Coach Lines Hobart to Swansea service had to take an ...

The Leyland Tiger has been sold by O'Driscoll Coaches to a mainland TBCS member. It is currently being housed @ HQ until suitable storage is found in Victoria. Then it will make the trip across the strait.
