Re: ex-State Transit Vehicle Transmissions
You can distinguish whether a B8RLE is a Euro 5 or Euro 6 by looking at the VIN.

Re: ex-State Transit Vehicle Transmissions
Most of the Volvo B12BLE Custom CB60 Evo II vehicles are fitted with a ZF EcoMat gearbox, but apparently some of the vehicles from 1870-1889 and in the 1900s have a Voith gearbox instead (https://sydneybuses.fandom.com/wiki/Volvo_B12BLE_-_Euro_5). Despite this it also seems that 4994 is fitted with...

I've locked the thread due to duplication with other threads where the above topics can be discussed. I.e. There is already a thread for observations that could include discussion on charter buses up to the "current day", while there is a dedicated photos section where photos of historical...

Re: Trams or Light rail down Scarb Beach Rd
It looks like the gadgetbahn wouldn't be doing the Perth-Glendalough section anyway, so that already limits it. I see that they're also testing the turning circle, presumably on the loops at both ends so that could be a show-stopper too. They might just be testing general turning, as it should be d...

Given that none of these contracts have gone out to tender yet, any discussion of who or who may not win these contracts is purely speculative. Let’s please keep this thread to factual information and observations.

Interesting. Green CAT drops from every 8 mins to every 10 mins, and Red CAT drops from every 5 mins to every 7 mins but operating hours are increased across all CAT routes throughout the week with earlier morning and later evening services.

Re: NSW Electric Bus Plan
There's still some evolution to go and an interesting development thinking outside the square is the Ebusco 3.0 which sheds a couple of tonnes of tare weight due to a lightweight carbon fibre body. I wonder how much that costs?! A recent media release from Ebusco suggests their new Ebusco 3.0 18 me...

If it happens, I suspect it won’t occur until the bus interchange is completed as part of the Bayswater Station project.

Re: Forrestfield-Airport Link Project
No details yet other than signage being installed suggesting there will be a terminal shuttle but you'd think a prerequisite is that there will be seamless integration with the train. I wonder if it will even be Transperth operated given that there was no mention of the shuttle in the consultation p...

Re: WA Transport General Discussion & Questions
A lot of speculation there... lets not get too carried away with "what if" scenarios. Morley and Midland went up at the same time last round and there was no change to the operators of either of those contracts, so it is anyone's guess as to who might win future contracts. It will entirely...

I was on one last night and the driver made an announcement after leaving Central (heading towards Randwick) that the doors would be passenger activated to help with energy efficiency. Not sure if for passenger comfort, driver preference or perhaps related to the current broader energy issues occurr...

Re: Esperance public transport consultation
The network appears to be designed around the existing school network. The proposed timetable suggests it shouldn't require any extra buses to deliver as the services operate at times when the existing fleet is available (i.e. outside school times).

Re: Sydney public transport revenue ‘stagnating’ as costs mount
Those farebox recovery numbers quoted for overseas cities are most likely pre-covid numbers. I have heard the around 90% figure quoted for London multiple times. Covid will have had a significant dent on farebox recovery without significant austerity measures, so it would be hard to believe that cit...

The photo below is the same Hess bus (as a trolleybus) in Zurich. As you can see, there is typically also a door behind the rear axle which has been deleted on the Australian bus. It should also be possible to fit two doors between the axles in the front unit if desired. I imagine Brisbane Buses ha...

You wanted to see the Perth FTZ abolished but over the years it was expanded to cover areas as far afield as Leederville and UWA. Not quite. The Perth FTZ boundaries haven't changed. All that has happened over the years is that the free CAT service has extended beyond the current FTZ boundaries but...

Re: PTA / Transperth & Private Observations - 2022
The seating on these may be reduced as there is a third bay of flip-up seats (3) present on these buses opposite the rear doors. Would guess that brings it down to somewhere between 35-38 seats, but perhaps with better standee counts. I can't imagine full laden capacity would vary much from the CNG...

Good to see the Ebusco 3.0 finally enter service. It has some impressive design features. They have been receiving some pretty sizeable orders in Europe in recent months, so it seems like confidence is high in the new model and the manufacturer (who has only appeared on the scene as part of the elec...

By slimline seats Mr OCB, do you mean those European-style individual seats as fitted to the new Element for Queensland? Yes, the individual seats, however, I understand they are lighter and slimmer than the ones typically used on diesel buses in Europe, Melbourne etc. The Yutong demonstrator, the ...

Perhaps rather carrying on like a barrack-room lawyer, making presumptive comments about how bad something must be, you could at least make an effort to avail yourself of the facts. While they don't tell the full story, these YouTube clips indicate that unless all of the passengers are vertically c...
