Re: What was the first bus you remember riding on?
It appears to be a "Fuji" Volvo B10ML. There used to be a few of them in Adelaide with various operators... Yes, a Fuji artic—in its original context, namely Expo '85 in Tsukuba, Japan. Several of them were used by Brisbane City Council from 1986 onwards, mainly on Cityxpress services. I ...

Re: What was the first bus you remember riding on?
Probably a Bedford SB. Definitely a route bus in dark blue livery, run by New Zealand Railways, between Waiuku and Papakura (the latter being the southernmost part of Auckland), in the early '80s. The equivalent route nowadays (at least geographically) would be the 395.

I found a video tape from 1982 showing an intelligent documentary with Phillip Adams of a standard that you would expect to see on ABC or SBS. It was on Seven. On a commercial channel! I wouldn't have expected that, but they obviously saw the possibility of it gaining enough of an audience ...

I kept the docket of our last big shop at the supermarket in Plzen and for our typical major shop of 60 items it was about $90 ... Come back to Australia and the similar 60 items at Coles first time is $375 In other words, three times as much in real terms, if ILO figures (average wages in PPP doll...

The reason that, in aggregate, women are paid less, is because they work less. They work more part time. They quit their jobs more often. They won't do the hard or inconvenient jobs. They retire earlier. Women are, in aggregate, slacker, because socially they can get away with being slacker. They a...

It was in 1969, but I suppose they realised we'd be getting colour before too long (the decision to adopt PAL colour having been announced the previous year).Bedford-29 wrote:Here is one closing down for the night theme I remember that channel 7 used.

Watching Sesame Street on a Philips black & white TV (the first one on this page). Tabletop Pac-Man. Bug-catchers. Almost getting the strap in Year 4, only to have the strap miss by a huge margin; then being told to scram by the count of five to avoid really getting a thrashing. The Hanimex Inte...
