Re: New Sydney and Outer Metro bus contracts (as from 2020)

Agreed. The number of 961/962 travelling empty between Miranda and Sutherland empty or nearly empty drives me nuts, knowing other routes are running still on temporary timetables. Now that we have opal, transfer benefits, i would have thought a scale back of 961/962 between Sutherland and Miranda wo...

Re: New Sydney and Outer Metro bus contracts (as from 2020)

U-go still don’t seem to have enough drivers to complete the full timetable on some routes. These temporary timetables are dragging on.

The 2 hour gap between services in the afternoon peak on 969 for 4 months now is becoming annoying.

U-go have stopped responding to my feedback forms.

Re: New Sydney and Outer Metro bus contracts (as from 2020)

U go have impressively claimed on their M92 split post that the split will allow drivers to complete other routes impacted by driver shortages. Here I thought routes on a temporary timetable would be restored to their full timetable on 25/9. I should have known better. Yesterday afternoon there was ...

In TripView a route 960 “unknown” is showing up. Seems to be m92 between Sutherland and Bankstown.

End of m92 near?

Re: New bus contracts to drive improved services (as from 2020)

I’ve been left high and dry on bus routes like 156 where the driver has obviously made an educated guess that nobody else will be getting on during the latter part of the trip and has turned around. In theory I have nothing wrong with what you’re suggesting, but the service should be advertised as “...

Re: New bus network arising from CSELR (L2/L3) opening

The tram services the SCG best, and maybe they will continue to run supplementary buses for major events. From Central or areas on the tram line yes... But a bus would be far quicker from Circular Quay, the east of the CBD, up Oxford, and anywhere beyond Taylor Square with transfer, or even Coogee....

Re: Manly Ferry Services...

As suggested two posts ago this thread should go back to Manly Ferries - the tram discussion is totally off topic. I disagree. It is on topic. The discussion is comparing and contrasting other systems that have kept a heritage vehicle, similar to the Freshwater class being kept on the Manly route i...

Re: Sydney’s public transport growing back differently post-pandemic

Which is more productive: buses 5 minutes apart being 1/3 full or buses 10 minutes apart being 2/3 full? A not so simple comparison. You’re assuming if frequency of a service is halved that all passengers will still travel. The frequency of every 5 mins might attract more total passengers on that r...

Re: Sydney’s public transport growing back differently post-pandemic

I can do an 891 in 12 minutes. How long does the tram take? I remember being on an 891 12 years ago that took 10 mins from Anzac parade to central. I also remember it often taking closer to half an hour. I also remember it taking up to 5 minutes to disembark the bus. I also remember waiting up to 4...

Re: Sydney’s public transport growing back differently post-pandemic

Opposition transport spokesman Chris Minns said he was pleased to see more patronage on the light rail. ‘‘The good news is you’ll always get a seat, the bad news is it might be quicker to walk,’’ he said. Mr Collins said thousands of Sydneysiders were now less likely to commute to work during stand...

Re: 2021 Easter Show

You haven't mentioned the cost of fuel, which for a return trip from the CC or Wollongong would probably erode most of that cost advantage. Let's take an example of going to Easter Show here and back from Newcastle (310km return): Fuel cost: 8.0L/100km x 3 = 24.0 x 121.5c/L = $29.16 Parking: $20 Do...

Re: 2021 Easter Show

To meet contact tracing requirements?? I could use an unregistered opal. Good luck contact tracing me! If they were serious and diplomatic, they could have mandated use of a registered opal card or credit card and set the fares at $0, but require tap on and off. I would have respected transport for ...

While I think it’s hideous too, if it helps pay for better bus services, and in my opinion bus services have improved significantly these last few years, I’m all for it.

Re: Bus stop changes at Miranda, Caringbah, Taren Point, Sans Souci and Ramsgate

The bus stop closures on the Kingsway in Miranda are overkill. I can’t see that being a benefit in any way.

However for a long time I’ve felt there were an annoyingly high amount of close spaced bus stops on Rocky Point Road, that’s a step in the right direction.

Re: New bus network arising from CSELR (L2/L3) opening

As a former student at UNSW just over a decade ago can I point out: 1. Most students (myself included) would have been thrilled to use the light rail as opposed to the then 891 and 895. 2. Most students would not be for pointless duplication of services, recoginising the unnecessary congestion and p...

Some new timetables for 923 924 and 926 from Transdev effective 23 Aug.

Sunday service for 926 as well as end of Sunday short runnings. Better frequency all round, much later hours. Significant improvement for suburban services, I guess patronage is good?

Re: The last manual route buses in Sydney

The more I think about it, Veolia Transport used to have a smaller weird looking bus around 2005, 2006 that was a manual transmission. Used to use it on 973, 974 and 975 quite often. I can’t find any record of the bus, it had rounded edges into the front of the body and definitely had a clutch and a...

I remember being on a connex south trans route 992 in 2001 that was a synchromesh manual (no clutch). It had 5 gears mounted on the left of the steering column.

Anyone know more about the above? I was only young then and my memory isn’t perfect.

I guess the logic is, prior to 10am there is sufficient parking in the CBD, and post that the overflow car park is required.
