Re: Diesel engine comparisons:what are the best and worst?
I think as much as I am not a euro fan…. Those 0303 merc V8 twin turbo are rock solid. Full cast iron, usually rebuilt at a million klms and most can go more than that. Old school Bosch mechanical injection really can’t beat them. Scania good before computers took over and a few do your head in desi...

Re: Acquired a Benz 0303/3
Hello there, most likely then the clutch slave up at the box is the culprit! Or it could be the master. Find and fix leak. To bleed… fill fluid reservoir and bleed it at the slave cylinder underneath at the rear by someone depressing the clutch pedal while you crack open the nipple. Don’t let the pe...

Re: Diesel engine comparisons:what are the best and worst?
Hi All, Detroit’s are cool and powerful for their day but as a typical GM… noisy, leak oil and suck fuel some at 2klm per litre. Merc 0303 V8 twin turbo 350HP now that’s a nice smooth engine uses about 28ltrs per 100klm and powers up hills pre 2000’s Most newer stuff is really about Cummins for effi...

Sorry for late further reply.
Re clutch.. if the ol girls sit for a while it may need a new clutch slave and or Master cylinders, quite inexpensive and easy to change.

Re: Our Big Rig (BURT) 1988 MAN AUSTRAL TOURMASTER
Hello there, give multispares a call or SMS diesel or Whites diesel a call.
Failing that, call the MAN dealer. The part may be reasonable or off the planet... hard to know.
It will most likely be MAN Chassis and running gear. Austral just built a tourmaster body on it.

Re: what is a good Mercedes bus model to convert to motor ho
Hi there, 0303/3 awesome bus but.. 1. really big and heavy 2. No need for 3rd axle 3. Not enough head space inside 0404 I think they are awesome till there is a problem! Same issues as above re height etc. I just wanted to add.. I have seen hi decks and double decker and they make pretty useless Mot...

Re: Newby questions
Hi there, I have converted a few coaches into motorhomes myself... I have found it best to start with a coach with a good service history and sound mechanical condition firstly. 2. Rear engine 3. Flat floor 4. Internal height of 1900+ 5. Belly bins with internal height min 870mm 6. Bonded windows id...

Re: Older bus to motorhome conversions
Hello there, firstly welcome! Old school ISUZU's are very tough, good to work on easy and reliable! However.... a lot goes into making a bus into a Motorhome. The basis is really important. You really need belly bins, a bus that can sit comfortably on 100kph all day. A rear engine and adequate head ...

Re: Acquired a Benz 0303/3
Hi there, 1. Most likely the 4 way valve in the middle of the coach behind the front axle is the air problem. 2. Need to find the coolant leak! A radiator pressure teamster should allow you to build up pressure and find it. 3. Does the gearshift feel normal with engine not running? 4. Unfortunately ...

Re: purchasing a Double Decker bus (conversion intention)
Hello there, I have read your post, Sorry to burst your bubble! Those old girls are too slow, too tall, too old, require way too much much maintenance. Get about 2 klms per litre and really are just not suitable as a a Motorhome for travel. If you are on a budget and serious about a real bus based M...
