Re: Once upon a time......... a mixed bag of photos.

Think I'll have to come up with some new photos. I still have boxes and boxes of bus slides that I've never scanned from the late '70's and the '80's.
Time will catch up so I'd better pull my finger out or they'll be lost. Stay tuned !

Once upon a time......... a mixed bag of photos.

Here's a small selection of images from my collection. Some I've posted ages ago (perhaps a new audience now), others a first posting on here. Start off with former Dural Buslines mo5320, a Freighter Lawton Commer monobus. Photo taken at their depot: https://www.busaustralia.com/gallery/displayimage...

Re: Private Bus Observations 2021

I was out in Bathurst a few weeks back trying to get a photo of the demonstrator out there with Buslines. It snuck up behind me without my camera ready, but I did think I could hear quite a bit of road noise and rattling as it passed. The lack of engine noise only highlights such things. I'd like to...

Re: Australian Aviation Thread 2021

Something a little different. After 40 years of service the RAAF has retired its FA-18A's 'Classic'. This is from youtube and a farewell flying display at Williamstown yesterday by the 2nd oldest aircraft in the fleet A21-2. The pilot is Group Captain Easthope. Apparently only 4 aircraft were lost i...

This was the 'midi' that was a Scania demonstrator on loan to Sydney Buses for 6 months over 2013-2014.
Looks in good condition from the images on the Rodd Hood website.

Re: Red Bus Services, Gosford. 10/11/21

It is also interesting to see al buses except the first one with Movember moustaches. So far I have seen none on buses in Sydney this year. BM Transit have them on their vehicles, but the promo of the cause seems a fizzer if everyone is wearing masks. Wasn't the idea to encourage growing one and sh...

One of Pykes Tours fully enclosed depots at 58-62 Baptist Rd, Redfern still exists and is now occupied by Centennial Park Auto Repairs. When I dropped in there many years ago now, they had a photo display of the building when used by Pykes and some of their vehicles.

Further to the story about Qantas bringing back 10 of their Airbus A380's into service. The first one arrives in Sydney on Tuesday afternoon. This particular one has been in Germany awaiting maintenance, but Qantas will now have that done here in their Hanger 96. The remaining Qantas A380's are stor...

I saw off the first of the reborn BM Explorer Bus runs this morning just after 9.00 am. Operated by one of the BCI Deckers and a thumbs up from the driver. Good luck to them.

I haven't been past in recent times but a few Hinos still in Harris Park livery sat in the 'spares' yard at Compass Tours Werrington. No doubt deregistered if still there.

Re: ICONIC BLUE MOUNTAINS Explorer bus company CLOSES

An article in the local Blue Mountains Gazette last week indicates the BM Explorer Bus will be back on the road from Saturday November 6. Initially on Saturdays only providing an hourly circuit from 9am until 5pm. The article also goes on to quote Jason Cronshaw who said they'd sold 7 buses, which b...

Re: Hunters Hill coaches

Without wanting to take this post further from its origins, I do have some minimal notes re a bus operator from the 1940's Pippens Bus Service that ran 'a regular route' from Camden to Burragorang. The author of a book published in 2005 'Valley of Wealth - A Burragorang Coal Story' commented that a ...

Beautiful shot of mo 4533 Red & Cream. If I stare at it long enough I start hearing the classic Bedford motor and the clunk of the gear change.
Hope this isn't a medical problem. :-)

Re: ICONIC BLUE MOUNTAINS Explorer bus company CLOSES

I should add that I think at the time the Explorer Bus only operated on weekends, so it wasn't an overly demanding schedule. Can't remember when it became a 7 days a week operation, but seems not all that long ago. It's till running I believe as Fleet # 305 with Red Decker in Hobart and there's a pr...

Re: ICONIC BLUE MOUNTAINS Explorer bus company CLOSES

The Metrobus was a regular on the Explorer Bus runs during it's time. I think there was a equal sharing of the duties between it and the Atlanteans at the time. Perhaps towards the end of it's time with them it had its work rate reduced. Driving past their depot on the weekend I can see the two BCI ...

Why wasn't this commentary happening in Australia by our media ????????????

Not sure if they'll continue to have a Central presence in another location there, but their main research centre and bookstore and cafeteria is at 5 Henderson Rd. Alexandria. This is about a 10 minute walk from Redfern Station. Checked their website and it's now open Tues to Fri from 9.00am to 3.00...

I'm happy to sell my copy. It does have a flaw with it on the inside cover (thanks to a vindictive ex wife) :-(
If interested send me a pm message and your email address and I'll send you an image of the flaw. Rest of book in best of condition.
Will accept a reasonable offer plus postage.

What I spotted (minus camera) just over a month ago was a Volvo Olympian still in all over red, as per BM Explorer Bus. On the front desto area (top and bottom) were shown two British towns which I've forgotten, and BERRY in large letters in the centre. On the rear it promoted weddings, winery tours...

A group of ravens that join me every morning in a local park, while I have a t/a coffee and read the paper at a table. They have become very comfortable with me, I put a bowl of water out for them and have tried various foods. If I'm eating a fruit toast or similar they come right up into my persona...
