Re: Sack engineers and sink river ferries.

The only vessels which actually need a engineer are: The First Fleeters, SuperCats & Freshwaters. Vessels such as RiverCats, HarbourCats & The Lady's don't have a engineer as the captain/skipper is also the engineer. In addition all a GPH's duties are to assist a skipper with the watch and ...

Re: SA Rail Consortium: Update

Let's be honest, this is all starting to get rather silly. Deflection of questions. Dogged determination that transport must be rail at all costs. A refusal to accept not only online opinion from those with experience and knowledge, but also the simple fact that this hasnt yet stacked up for governm...

Re: SA Rail Consortium: Update

I knew I shouldn't have come into this thread, as it is nothing but trouble, but now that I have dipped my toe into it.... Firstly, over on Railpage you have made suggestions about traffic which has attracted commentary from people who have a reasonable level of knowledge, for example over gauges an...

Re: SA Rail Consortium: Update

The Passenger part is an interesting aspect. You mention that they could terminate at Gawler- this is what is planned as well as a possible takeover of the whole network (don't quote me on this- I am speculating what MIGHT or MIGHT NOT be). There will be daily trains but not to every town every day...

Re: SA Rail Consortium: Update

Have you decided whether you want to be a lobby group for regional rail services or establish an operating company which will deliver regional passenger rail services? In previous posts I understood you to be weighing up these two options.

Re: WA Transport Questions thread

I think Q4004 was trying to say that if Rockingham had Adblue, then new diesel deliveries would go to Rockingham, leaving those older buses at Mandurah.

Hope that helps the head scratching!

Re: WA Transport Questions thread

I only have infrequent personal observations to back this up, but I seem to remember usually seeing a higher ratio of artics on the 66 rather than the other Beaufort Street routes. Perhaps some judicious reallocation of artics to other services may have helped to alleviate this situation, or was thi...

Re: A couple of B sets on the Freo line today

Cat - what you say is clearly logical. The current allocation of the A and B sets makes sense - both for operations and maintenance - but I'm still very curious as to where this accepted wisdom of their unsuitability for the other lines came from. If Claisebrook was to disappear into a hole in the g...

Re: A couple of B sets on the Freo line today

I have read it on a number of gunzel websites, but to be honest I'm not convinced about this "motors that can't handle the stop/start of the Freo and other older lines". It would seem extraordinary to order and deliver suburban EMU's which - by design - are unsuitable for most of the netwo...

Re: Perth-Fremantle Route 760 - some photos from Day 3

Thanks Herbert - guess that answers that :) It does seem rather odd that for the sake of just a few days 489 and 490 received the smaller rear doors - unless it was a deliberate decision to trial these doors on those two buses to see their effectiveness on artics (which would seem peculiar, as for a...

Re: Perth-Fremantle Route 760 - some photos from Day 3

Great photos of fabulous buses from an era I fondly remember. I'll never tire of more of these pictures.

Herbert - do you have any photographic evidence as to whether the last (original) 305G's, 488-490, carried the logos for the 760/766 service that can be seen on the front and side of these buses?

Re: MTT Kwinana Bus Station

No, it hasn't been used for years. It certainly was a bleak place - miles from anywhere, with absolutely nothing within cooee. A beautiful view of the heavy industry of Kwinana though... The only thing going for it was that it was directly along the route used by buses between Fremantle and Rockingh...

Re: Only 8 Years ,Have we changed for the better?

Re going 2way, keep in mind as William street becomes two way, the traffic turning right into Newcastle, Aberdeen, James and Roe will have to wait for pedestrians to cross whilst the signal is green. As a result something similar to St. Georges Terrace and William. Sometimes only allowing 2-4 vehic...

Re: Timetable project of mine

Also, reference to Swan Transit (operator of Route 104 ) has been omitted from timetable W36 I did a little digging around before I went on holidays last week and found out the 104 is part of the Fremantle Contract. For some reason, Swan has been assigned this route (also it's predecessor 709 ) in ...

Re: Passenger kicks, punches 70yo bus driver in head

Now, with my bus driver's cap firmly in place, I have often unwittingly brought people back to the depot. I'd like to survey those who are critical of the bus driver for not checking his bus: how many of you have actually ever driven a bus? How many have driven an NH where it is nigh impossible to ...

Re: Tribute to the Mercedes-Benz O 305 G

Because of how late 474 and 490 were refurbished, they went into the second variation of the Transperth livery. 489 went into the third variation with the smaller 'T' logo with Transperth printed over the top of it. 488 was a bit of a mess for a while with one side in old livery, one side with no d...

Re: Tribute to the Mercedes-Benz O 305 G

Trigg also retained a couple for Glendalough-Scarb services when the NSR opened in March 93, one of these was 484. I seem to remember 484 as a Causeway bus in the early 90s (prior to 93). I'm pretty sure their allocation around that time included 479, 484 and 485. IIRC 485 was also a late bearer of...

Re: Tribute to the Mercedes-Benz O 305 G

A very extensive summary there PBCNG and a cracking read. Some other points which could be added are the spread of 305Gs to Redcliffe (474 in the mid 80s) and Gosnells. If anyone has the details to provide a depot allocation history for the 305Gs over the years I'd be fascinated to see it. A minor c...
