Rail buses - tickets required?

Hi All Back when the T4 line was closed from Cronulla and Waterfall to Central, I got into a bit of a debate with a friend of mine as to ticketing on trackwork buses, does it work the same as when there's no trackwork? Do you still need a valid ticket to ride? What about Opal users, do they have to ...

Re: Introducing OPAL Card

A friend of mine from interstate (who is legally blind) has a pass to travel for free, so I'm not sure blind people would require an Opal card anyway (they'd just have their existing passes as such recognised the same way as they are now)? Isn't the way pensioner tickets work that it's $2.50 for a ...

Re: NEW WHITE ON BLACK SYDNEY BUSES DESTOS

I believe they're a godsend, so much easier to read then the green flipdots. IMHO they should become the standard for both government and contracted buses, have yet to see them on any buses in my local area (Caringbah), though I have seen them around Taren Point.

Re: [NSW TrainLink] Free Wi-Fi at Central(i) Station

If it were me installing on board WiFi on trains, I'd kick it hotel style and have a captive portal, requiring all users to open their web browsers and actually 'log on' to the network, by which I mean agree to a ToS (unless somebody else has an idea for identifying actual passengers on the train fr...

Re: Key tips for bus drivers about Vision Impaired passenger

I've had a few problems with buses over the years I've regularly caught them, won't list them all but just the ones that plague me the most: 1) Bus drivers not stopping for me when I'm standing at the stop (learned to at least try and hail the bus so that never happens again) 2) Bus drivers missing ...

Re: Unlocking 1,000 rail staff car spaces for customers

Yeah, I meant people who finish at the same time could carpool together, it may not necessarily be the same people who were on the morning run. Sorry, I should've probably clarified.

Re: Unlocking 1,000 rail staff car spaces for customers

Here's an idea: maybe staff who live close to each other and start at the same time (give or take a few minutes) and at the same depot/station, could carpool to work, that way only one car would be required. The same sort of thing could be done with people who finish at the same time.

Re: *Opal Card INFRASTRUCTURE roll-out progress ONLY*

Spotted an Opal reader without a test sticker today around 6:22 PM at Caringbah station (near the lift), my guess is a passenger decided to take it off for God-knows-what-reason, since it was just the one reader, every other reader seemed to still have them on (didn't get a closer look, there was pr...

people are ignorant to audio announcements? plenty of them don't get through!! I mean people that decide not to listen to audio announcements, despite them getting through (mostly people with headphones in). They do occasionally get through, but it depends on where you are in the train and the qual...

Cool, now time for separate accounts for each bus region as well. Busways already has twitter accounts for each of their operating regions, however the tweets are just promotions... Sorry but, PROMOTIONS?! How on Earth do you promote a contracted bus company? It's not like customers have a choice o...

I'd be happy if they did at least this (and install information displays for the hearing impaired and otherwise ignorant to audio announcements).

If Miranda was done yesterday afternoon, they probably knocked over the rest of the Cronulla branch line today.
A friend of mine saw readers at Caringbah today. I'll try to grab some pictures tomorrow.

GPS? What would GPS have to do with it? This is just a program error, isn't it? Or is it something more complex than that?

Re: New TransportNSW.info Website

Has anybody else noticed this issue: For some reason, whenever I enter a stop number, it returns the name of the stop, as it should, but if I enter a different number, the same stop name is returned, even though it's a different number and therefore should refer to a different stop, here's a quick e...

Re: NSW Transport Review in 2013 and What to Expect in 2014

Only a minor note, but you forgot Veolia's rebranding into Transdev and Transdev South (ex Veolia). Minor because the only places you notice the new logo is on tickets, driver high visibility vests, depot signs, and destos that have no route or generic message (Charter Bus, Sorry Not In Service, etc...

Re: Introducing OPAL Card

I knew about the magnetic strip pass, but sadly that's on request for existing card holders, and it still requires you to keep your pass on you whenever you use it just in case a police officer pulls you up and asks to verify your entitlement, which honestly, I've never seen happen because it isn't ...

Re: Introducing OPAL Card

Something I'd like to know is will the Vision Impaired Persons Travel Pass be implemented with Opal? Melbourne has some...

Re: State Transit Observations - January 2014

In my personal opinion I prefer the white LED destos over the orange LEDs or green flip dots, since it's easier to read due to the higher contrast, which makes it more suitable for the vision impaired (and possibly blind too, though I can't say that for sure since I'm not blind, though I am vision i...

Re: [Newc. Herald] Bus passengers abused by intoxicated teen

What I would like to know is why don't routes like this have police officers on board to help further discourage bad behaviour? If what captainch says is true, then that's more than enough reason to put at least 2 officers on board to control passengers who decide to ignore the signs all over the bu...

Re: Use of Back Door on Buses

I've never seen the back door (or middle door on articulated/"bendy" buses) opened except on State Transit buses. Once I saw someone stand at the back door on a Transdev South (formerly Veolia) bus and the driver actually said that they could only exit from the front door, so they do seem aware of t...

Re: 131500 website

One thing apps need to work on is listing platform numbers, particularly with the new T codes, while signage hasn't caught up yet. For example, google doesn't list what platform the T1 service departs from From memory Google Maps never listed platform numbers, even before the new T codes were made ...
