Re: VOLVO’S FIRST ELECTRIC BUSES IN AUSTRALIA DUE MID-2021

The flash charging concept seems to be the way to go INHO. Not the silly and time wasting at each stop business like Newcastle trams but rather the at terminus version as is used, for example, on Vienna's inner city electric midis. These lay over for about 5 mins between trips and raise their panto ...

Re: Newcastle Bus Interchange opens

Appears to beg several questions. Why does the 22 go in when the other local routes do not?
And while its hard to tell from looking at a map, is there room to extend the light rail tracks westward for any extension?

Re: VOLVO’S FIRST ELECTRIC BUSES IN AUSTRALIA DUE MID-2021

Assuming the trial is successful I would imagine there would be a new generation of electric CATs next and if that works a more general extension. By the end of the current contract that may well delivering only electrics. In 20 years or so the diesel city bus will probably be as obsolete as a gas p...

Correct. Best accessible bus available in the sub 25 seat range. Much better than a Rosa or Coaster.

Re: VOLVO’S FIRST ELECTRIC BUSES IN AUSTRALIA DUE MID-2021

That's fair comment and indeed it is already being done in the NSW trials where electrics are running on normal inner suburban runs and one has been used on a country rail supplement. The Melbourne one is on a heavily patronised cross suburban run whilst the Qld one is on a semi rural suburban route...

Isn't that because there are stuff all people using them other than on a few core routes which are to be retained?

871 was reported as arriving earlier this week. Up to 870 in service.
Burnie and Launceston are now all low floor with around 30 high floors remaining in Hobart.
Looks to be on track for the order to be completed by/ around the end of the year.

I'll just repeat one I made on Facebook back in March. Americans, revolted by 150k plus covid deaths by November, elect Biden in a landslide. He only needs to make one election promise....a UK/ AUS style health care system.

Re: Have your say on West of Bankstown

Extend the metro to Regents Park either where surface rail is now or underground.
Metro terminates with underground platforms at Regents Park.
Run train service from Liverpool etc to Lidcombe and City.
Regents Park becomes a 3 way interchange between services.
Or is that too simple?

One could argue that the TT driver was just doing his jpb properly. If you observe bus drivers overseas (Europe, USA, Asia) they are far more vigilant in policing revenue protection that the "don't give a stuff" culture which operates here and in the UK. Even in Sydney last year I saw a woman bus dr...

Nothing new in any of this - bus drivers have been sweeping the bus out at end of shift for 100+ years now. Likewise taking meal breaks at terminii etc. Just getting rid of some of the featherbedding which has crept in over the last few decades.

Re: Route Service Double deckers - Sydney

My recollection is that the announcement was about buying deckers instead of artics - however you still have to wait until the artics are due for replacement - which most are not.
It was not suggested that deckers would replace rigids.
