Re: Introducing OPAL Card

simonl wrote: Ok, so there is. 25km/h. Thanks.

So I right in the first place then.
So how come when a bus goes past a stop at 40kph without stopping the readers come on? Plenty of stops in my area where the bus doesn't need to stop.

simonl wrote: Really? So they just set it a smaller distance than they did in Qld?
Probably because the distance between stops can be quite short in Sydney (unfortunately)

Re: Introducing OPAL Card

If there is a flat fare on the bus, there is no need to tap off at all. Correct, however some systems have a transfer benefit. ( like Sydney ) and unlike the generous time limit in Sydney of 60 min some have a lot less, even down to 10 minutes. As a general rule because there are so many different ...

There is no interlock. It it based on distance from the stop.

I've noticed it on hillsbus, but I thought it was a speed warning as ever time it went off the driver braked.

Don't have to wonder very much. Those systems either use a flat fare, or only operate thru one fare zone.

Re: Sydney's population hits 5 million

Like any heavy rail, metro is too inflexible and inconvenient over these shorter distances. Surely this depends on your definition of 'metro' and wouldn't apply in most European cities with 'metros'. Most European cities had metros built in a time when station costs were a lot cheaper. Hence statio...

Re: Central Station Coach Terminal to relocate

With the light rail to take up a fair bit of Chalmers Street, will the road be widened to occupy part of the wide footpath on top of platforms 24/25? Otherwise I can only see 1 lane being able to be retained for south-bound traffic presuming cars will not be able to travel over the rails. I may be ...

Re: New Opal Fares 1 July 2016 - deferred to 5 September.

The concept is still flawed though. I catch the same train everyday; if I manage to get through the barrier by 6:59 I get to pay OP fare, if I go through at 7:00 I pay full fare. How do you propose to fix it? Same goes in London, every central underground station is packed in the morning with touri...

The media don't have a clue, they do it with aircraft as well. A story of Qantas flying to London, show a domestic 737.

Re: Use of Back Door on Buses

I thought the Renault/Citelis 12 metres in Paris were all door loading since they are basically a French design for that purpose and are used that way all over Europe. Might be used for all door loading in other European cities. But in Paris they have a big "No entry" symbol on the rear d...

Single seat journey? I was in Melbourne yesterday morning, trying to get on a train in the inner city. I only managed to get on the sixth one ( yes I had to give up on 5) All crush loaded not a chance to even open the doors. Absolutely packed.

Sounds like High St services will divert via Barker (so they've also got 5 days to get that intersection clear; they're yet to lay any track slab). Will be an interesting trip in a full O405NH on a hot day. I remember when I was in school it was an interesting trip in a lightly laden MkII O305... Y...

What sort of dead running is going to be involved with this thing halfway up one of the lines instead of centrally located in Sydney? The tiltover seats in the V sets are a safety hazard because they were found to slam forward and contribute to the injuries in the several crashes that have occurred over the years. I think we have a winner. Thinking about it I have never encountered a train in Europe with reversible seats, not lon...
