Re: STA Observations 2020

It appears that the electric demonstrator at Waverley is not running timetabled trips or collection fares. Drivers are being given free rein to operate the bus on their choice of service during their allocated shift. This allows for the drivers to pick and choose services that will provide a variet...

Re: M61 and M60

Given that the current contract payment structure penalises on road reliefs away from the depot using a staff car or bus, then it's no surprise private operators generally don't do it. They would be robbing themselves of service km and hour revenue which is paid on dead running to/from the depot. Th...

TfNSW developed the network. STA as the local operator would've had some limited input into the final network, which TfNSW could still change at anytime.

Re: NSW Railway Observations 2020

But as from tomorrow there are only timetables for routes 31BM and 32BM while from next Friday (Good Friday) there are only timetables for route 32BM until 17/4 which seems to be the normal period ahead for which timetables are issued. The situation must have improved on the Blue Mountains line wit...

Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement

AnyTrip for NSW has very interestingly sometime recently added a filter for "14.5m rigid buses" - maybe a handy tool for people to find the last remaining 14.5m Scania Ansair buses at M. I hardly see them anymore off-peak these days so I'm sure the end is near Since the July 28th changes in Region ...

Re: STA Observations 2019

Due to high amount of patronage, Free Bus 22T4 operated this weekend with Articulated Buses. As the result, some free 333 services were operated using rigid bus only. The 333 trips using rigid buses were in fact additional trips between the City and Bondi Junction, to assist with extra loading from...

Re: Introducing OPAL Card

Opal was activated on all STA buses operating ESR replacement routes, for the first time this weekend. The buses were configured to charge rail fares. However contactless is not yet accepted on STA buses, so it was Opal cards only. I understand Sydney Trains/TfNSW would like to roll this out across ...

Re: STA Privatisation / Franchising

It’s similar to an article the other day showing the 362 as one of Sydney’s least patronised routes. On an annual basis of course it is; a 30 minute frequency only on summer weekends. Never mind that every 362 trip will carry a significant multiple of the busiest on demand trips that the minister i...

Re: STA Privatisation / Franchising

I note from the latest figures that Region 9 patronage has been falling steadily 2 to 3 million per year for a couple of years. Surely that rates as underperformance warranting a review? It's the only metropolitan region that has had falling patronage as far as I can see. If region 9 went, that wou...

Re: STA Observations 2019

Trains aren't running through Chatswood today, so the 340 is probably a preferred alternative into the city than RR buses which terminate at Wynyard.. The trip planner is probably suggesting rail passengers should use the 340 for trips starting/ending in the city beyond Wynyard, as the travel time ...

Re: STA Observations 2019

I've heard a rumour from a friend who works out of M, that M will be losing all of its bendy buses to Y and will become a 12.5m bus depot only after the last 14.5m's are retired. Apparently quite a number of Epping Rd and the 340 trips have been shifted to 12.5m rigids after the timetable change on...

Re: Sydney Bus changes 28th July 2019

Both TSA and STA are not going to benefit in any way by moving respective trips forward or backwards. TfNSW can't be blamed for everything. The operator does have...

Re: Sydney Bus changes 28th July 2019

^ 420N was added to the service adjustment page late yesterday. What's disappointing about the 420/420N changes is that late at night TSA appear to have not given a stuff about maintaining connections with the 400N. STA designed the 400N timetable to connect with all 420N and some early morning/lat...

More evidence TSA Burwood is soon to operate the 420 saw B depot bus on a route training run along Botany Rd heading towards the Airport with a bunch of drivers onboard. That will be very interesting to see TSA operate that service. TSA already operate the route 420 and have done so since the route...

Re: 30/6 and 1/7/2019 Transport alterations

Are there any 400 runs that use the 14.5s in the new STA shifts from 30/6? The two weekday AM shifts that used to run with a 14.5 appeared to all be VSTs last week and today. Due to the progressive withdrawal of the 14.5m long buses, there are no longer any weekday 400 trips operated by them, as ST...

Re: Victorian Route and Timetable changes 2019

The problem with the new Kyneton town network, is that the person who designed the routes has gone completely crazy!! A town or more like a suburb the size of Kyneton does not need 4 seperate bus routes, that's just ridiculously confusing! The best solution would've been just a oneway loop route tha...

But agree that the arbitrary Yarra cut off seems nonsensical. Crown and the Arts Centre are big tourist draw cards. And given that a big part of the pitch is to make things simpler for tourists, the stupid focus on the Hoddle Grid plus Docklands (which would be meaningless concepts to most non-Melb...

Are there any farewell meet ups planned for the last services to Newcastle? I know many people are in denial this is really happening, and given it's on Christmas Day I can see people may not want to come out. But I might be able to make it up for a Christmas evening meet-up on one of the last serv...
