It's using a weight sensor. Side effect: Empty cars can show up as having >0 passengers on the onboard computers.

M & H sets also have weight sensors, but they're not phoning home.

Re: NSW Railway Observations 2019

I did find Dora Creek has been listed as last 6 cars https://transportnsw.info/stop?q=10101149#/ and Emu Plains https://transportnsw.info/stop?q=10101253#/ as last 6 too. Sounds like they need another overhaul of the short platform information (perhaps when the V sets are retired?) Apparently the w...

Re: NSW Railway Observations 2019

It was getting a bit too much with all the different length platforms and trains so they simplified it by having only SPM, SP1r, SP4 and SP6. It's really not simplified. Here's some exceptions: SP1: Koolewong (Down), Tascott SP2: Various Southern Highlands locations SP6 (Front): Redfern (Up), Dora ...

A little late to the party here, but... Re Berowra: I imagine an argument with the driver and the guard took place as to the stopping position. In this instance, they would both be right, so the guard would have had to defer to the driver. The guard should have been on the platform, but since P3 ope...

City Outer is closed. Down NSR is only accessible from 22/23. For whatever reason they're not turning trains around there (to be fair, it's a pain in the arse).

The last week of December and first week of January is usually run as a weekend timetable from memory. Under normal working arrangements, trains Terminating in th...

When crewed by a suitably qualified driver they do, but the other services are scheduled so that they can be operated with a V set if required.

Trains What I can't understand is the next train is a semi-express stopping at only three extra stations, but takes 12 minutes longer. How can skipping just three stations add up to saving of 12 minutes, especially when the now fastest express is meant to take a minute longer between Wickham & Hami...

It was announced a couple of minutes before arriving into Hornsby, and it looked like most people got off and changed to a North Shore train. That's normally when Sydney Trains decides the service isn't going down the shore or that you're getting put away in the loop just before Hornsby station to ...

Would that be allowed for a single crew? I doubt it. So minimum two crews required to be based there, that's four people when you include the guards. Not to mention other costs - at a minimum you'd need someone to assess that the crew are fit for duty, and you'd probably end up with a security guar...
