Re: New G class order

^ There’s nothing at all to suggest even a remote chance that the depot spur will be unwired. I suspect that the ability to run short distances on battery power is primarily intended to eliminate the possibility of trams getting stuck in dead sections and needing to be rescued. It causes severe disr...

^ The 476 is definitely being split into two routes. The route number for the Plumpton section is currently undecided but there’s been speculation that it’ll be 466.

Re: Ownership of Melbourne Bus fleets

^ It's actually a little more complicated. Legally the buses are owned by a special purpose entity (generically referred to as AssetCo) of which the sole shareholder is ANZ Bank. Through a series of contracts between ANZ, Transdev and the state they're perpetually leased to Transdev or any successor...

Re: Liberal Party promise more frequent trains if elected in

^ Eltham and Montmorency are already every 20 minutes off-peak. They're not all that busy most of the time, but reducing services to every 30 minutes probably wouldn't go down well. Obviously the ideal option would be to just duplicate and upgrade Eltham to every 10 minutes, then close the rest of t...

The useless PTV just spent money to remove cross-platform interchange at Laverton.
And as usual Roderick's agenda comes to light.

Laverton predates PTV by several years.

Re: Box Hill - Ringwood bustitution

More than slightly indirect route.. perhaps it's quicker than getting through Kew to get on the Eastern Freeway at the Chandler Highway? Google suggested Chandler Highway then the Eastern would've been a minute quicker but 15km shorter. Canterbury Road would've taken the same amount of time and 18k...

While I confess to having minimal knowledge of Nepean Hwy south of Frankston in peak times myself, but I wouldn't have termed it a crawl. Google Maps does not suggest that the trip is overly slower northbound in the AM peak than at other times - at worse it shows some mild congestion just north of ...

Re: WHAT? VLcocities don't have reclining or reversible seat

As the title says, VLocities (or is that Vlocities?) don't have reclining or reversible seats? But except for some lines, aren't they meant to be country (RFR) trains? No, they're absolutely commuter trains. They just happen to occasionally venture a little bit further because it's operationally co...

Yawn.

If you'd bothered doing some actual reading, you'd know the stated capacity is 1380 per 7-car unit.

(For comparison, the crush capacity of an 8-car DD in Sydney is 1750, with a severe impact on reliability.)

^ Clearance issues on the Avon River bridge at Stratford. There's a curve in the middle of it, and Vlocity cars are slightly longer than N cars so even though they physically fit there's a small risk of striking the side. Vlocity sets don't run to Warrnambool because the many unprotected level cross...

Given there was some discussion of passive design allowing for later upgrade to 200 km/h, it would be interesting to know if that happened, ie, if the Vlocities are capable of 200 km/h and the design of the infrastructure passively allowed for the higher speed. The Vlocities are certainly capable o...

Station skipping happens rather frequently on the Craigieburn line, mostly heading outbound in the morning.
