Re: Finding Ex MTT vehicle original compliance details

Your bus was fitted with a heavy timber frame body built by Campbell and Mannix when it was new. The chassis dates from 1956 and the bus entered service in 1957. The old body was replaced with a new lighter weight steel frame body by Boltons body builders of West Perth in 1966. Whether that affects ...

Re: A Few Odds and Ends of Late

Well done. Its good to see that you are trying film as a medium for your bus photography. Film is my preferred medium for my transport photography. If I only have one opportunity for a precious shot, I will use the film camera. I use colour transparency (slide) film. Fujichrome Velvia 100. This prod...

Friend of mine has a 1954 year car that has been in his family since new. Its rego was 58588. The reflective plate issued when the old all numeric plate was compulsorily taken away was ULP588. Re: Trams in Adelaide - the final years

There is a red Volkswagen Transporter van in the picture (Kombi). From what I can glean from the internet, these first went into volume production in 1956. That would mean the picture was taken 1956 or later.

Re: United Bus co Daimler CVG6 DD bus and a Bedford SB

Thanks for the tip and link to the Daimler double deck picture. It was United Buses of Claremont, - number 6. Pre-War COG5 model fully imported from the UK with Park Royal body. Perth's only double deck bus for many decades. The chassis still exists with the Bus Preservation Society of WA. (BPSWA). ...

Re: More WAGR Fodens in 1969

Glad you have John Young's book. My inclination is the buses in the picture above are A11, A6, A10 and A14. A11 and A14 received the Howard Porter bodies with fibreglass ends and can also be distinguished with deeper side windows with the top portions as sliders. The earlier rebuilds had shallower s...

Re: More WAGR Fodens in 1969

I don't know what reference source you are using for the WAGR road bus fleet details, but the definitive works are David Urquhart's www.perthbus.info web site and John Young's book "Railway Road Truck and Bus Services of Western Australia". John has just done a reprint of his book, so it i...

Re: More WAGR Fodens in 1969

Hi Roderick, Some great pictures. Comprehensive photography of buses in Western Australia by the enthusiast community here did not gather serious momentum until the early 1970's and you have posted many interesting pictures that are now very rare. Most of us were too busy concentrating on steam trai...

Re: Articulated bus, Berrigan, c1940.

Prime mover appears to be what we know as a "jail bar Ford". Side valve V8 in most, if not all cases. I must take issue with my colleague Guy_Arab. Any vehicle that has a flexible joint is technically articulated. Be it a conventional semi-trailer or the modern articulated bus. The worst a...

Re: WAGR Guy 59 in 1969

There is much about the WAGR bus fleet that is still to be told. When looking at the Guy Victory chassis as supplied to the WAGR one should also look at Guy Motors' parallel development of the Wulfrunian double deck chassis. Both this version of the Victory and the Wulfrunian employed disc brakes at...

Re: WAGR Guy 59 in 1969

Couple of points relating to the WAGR Guy Victory buses and G 59 "Queen of the South". The three high deck Scenicruiser body buses (note the WAGR use of the word "coach" didn't become widespread until the Mercedes-Benz O303 era) were basically out of service by 1971. As we know G...

Re: Paid parking at Stations - What do you think?

Claremont station is different from many other stations, as (from my observations) there is enough parking. It has a massive car park (for the station's size) that was probably built for Showgrounds. With the parking charge, there will most certainly be some people who will park for free on the str...

Re: More from the OTR files

The shot of 2339 in Ben Street may not be the best one to experiment or "fiddle" with. Your camera has done well originally with a technically different picture. i.e. the subject in shade on a sunny day with bright background. You may wish to play around with originals that are not in such...
