The above three units which operated with Southtrans were part of an order of 250 buses from West Midland Travel, UK.  WMT were in the process of receiving 250 units and Leyland needed two vehicles quickly. They persuaded TWM to accept a slight delay in delivery. As such, units LX1687/8 were replaced by units LX1760/1.
The same happened again a few months later and again TWM accepted a delay in delivery. LX1848 was replaced by LX1890.
TWM still received 250 units, although with different chassis numbers and slightly later.
